That's right! We rely on each other.

Most of us can poke fun at each other and not take it too seriously. There are always a few that take it to far and/or personal though. Watch out for them. They are usually the ones that find themselves in trouble for various issues.

I hate it when people get in huge heated debates about which branch is better. I understand some jokes here and there just for shits and giggles, but theres so need in gettin personal. Its like gettin in a fight with your teammate. Thanks for all the advice guys. so far its lookin like im gonna be in the USAF. I am schedualing my ASFAB and my physicals next week and then I get to sit down and list 5 jobs i like and am interested in.

That's great to hear. Remember what has been said, get it in writing. If you want a particular job, make sure it is in your contract. Some jobs you might have to wait for. Also, if you have any college under your belt you might be eligible for a stripe or two. Again, if are make sure it is in your contract. Best of luck to you!

It's worth the wait to get the job you're really interested in. If I remember correctly, you're thinking career, which makes it even more important to get the right job. After this initial enlistment, before you re-enlist you'll have an opportunity to retrain into something else, but that list will be tailored to the critical shortage skills that they need. Getting the right job now is important.

And like many have said here...Make damn sure it's in your contract.

Take Care and keep us posted!

Yea, that statement really cannot be bolded and repeated enough, if that isn't in your contact they will do whatever they feel like with you. Verbals promises mean nothing.

Yep, you are too smart for me. You really got got me on the semantics there. Maybe I should have written, I also have heard about how the Air Force would have been a better choice and have even said it myself a few times.

That being said though, if I had it to do over, I wouldn't have chosen any other service but the Army. I enjoyed being a Soldier, being around Soldiers, and having all the experience and training that went with it. But that was just me, everyone is different and you have to choose what's important and best for you.

When my son wanted to join the military, the first place I took him was to the Coast Guard Recruiter. The second was to the Air Force Recruiter. He ended up going into the Army. The Army offered him a $20,000 bonus. The Air Force didn't. The Army allowed him to pick the MOS he wanted. The Coast Guard didn't. Like I said, you have to figure out what is important and best for you.

And while it is true that the Air Force is generally better when it comes to things like chow, housing, community services, family support, etc. it is also true that the Army has made some big improvements in those areas in the last ten years or so.

To the OP: There is honor in serving your country and you can't go wrong no matter which service you choose. Good luck and God Bless

well said. there is a place for everybody. we need people in every branch. if everybody joined the AF we would have a severe desk shortage.

when chosing to serve, make your own choice and make the situation work for you. nothing is perfect, especially the military. people have their own reasons for joining. some people care more about the job they are going to be doing that the comforts and sunshine they will experience on base. i didnt pick the AF because i wanted tasty food, cool pencil pockets on my uniform and flowers outside my house. i joined because the job i wanted to do was in AF special tactics, not anywhere else. i wanted to save good guys and kill bad guys. Had i not been able to get that job i would have gladly joined another branch in a second.

it's a term of service, a sacrific to serve a greater good and to serve the USA, not yourself. make the best you can out of it but remember, when in the military, it's not all about you.

Can I get some help also please? I am currently in AFROTC. I really need to get on scholarship so I can finish my school without having to worry about paying it all back. I am planning on doing at least 20 years. I want to do intell or maybe air battle manager. something like that. But the only thing right now thats making me a bit iffy about all of this is how they are cutting back on everything. They are not giving out scholarships for a while now and they are not commissioning as many cadets anymore. So... here is what I was thinking... If i cant get my school payed for I will go back to my original idea of enlisting. I was in the delayed entree program back in high school but I got out to go to college. I just dont want to wait like 2 years to get in :( or the other plan was.. join Army ROTC and do that kinda stuff. Its a bit easier to get on scholarship but I never really considered Army. So.. what do you think? Anything will help. Thanks

did they tell yall that at instructor school?

my buddy was forced to become an instructor when i was AD. he was going to separate, then decided against it. his punishment for resending his paperwork was to be stuck at Kessler as a comm instructor.
