Soooo sick of moving snow !

So update on the frame rust issue with silver 04 PARTS TRUCK. I figured before I do anything I should see if this is covered under the frame recall as my 02 Tacoma was. The Previous owner did not get the undercoating applied that was offered this expired in 2012. If previous owner did then the frame would have a 15 year warranty from the date it was made.

sub'd, great write up. I feel your pain about fixing EVERYTHING just fortunately I do not have the rust, but do have blazing heat in the summer if that is any consolation.

What a great (re)build. Who knew a tacoma could be so much work? Living in SW Colorado, my high mileage Tacoma has had none of these issues. Thanks for the inspiration to tackle them when they do occur!

So on my 04 parts Tacoma silver the inner rocker has holes covered by stupid rubber things.

On my 02 Tacoma red I took a step drill and opened them up and put plugs in them. I filled with rust check first.

Forgot I did this but when I was looking at my fuel filter I remembered.

    Dirty Pool SAID ......

Not uncommon at all and I figured you would run into this.

First, use a quality well fitting line wrench, the fit can vary quite a bit. Stop before rounding the fitting or twisting/kinking the hard line.
I had a fitting rust to the line even after using anti-seize on the threads at the initial install.

The idea to free it up is to "flex" the threaded female half on the filter. Squeeze the fitting with the biggest baddest pair of channel locks or even better vice grips. Squeeze on the points of the hex not the flats. Try several squeeze and release cycles. With vice grips you can tap the jaws with a hammer to help break the bond. Use the penetrating oil of your choice.
If this doesn't do it and you still knew when to stop, break out the drill. Drill a row of holes along one of the flats to weaken the fitting then do the squeeze operation again. No need to go too deep with the drill.

I went a little deep here, but all is well.

On assembly I still use anti-seize but give the fitting a wrap with that rubber tape that fuses to itself to keep the weather out.

Tacoma fuel filter change was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. First time I had it off and I have owned the truck 7 years. I did have to take the bracket off to get the old filter out and the new filter installed. Then I sprayed it with rust check

    230000km

    Change your filter !

Bought some new rear AAL for the truck. I was told they will give me 2" lift in the rear.

So upcoming work for this truck
    Install rear AAL
    Install new rear shocks
Install new lower ball joints so they will all be new
Install new cv axels as the boots are torn
Install new 5100 on the front
    Install new tires
    Front end alignment

All the parts have been bought and are sitting at home waiting except the new rear shocks required for the lift.

Quick update on my slow moving build if anyone is following:)

My 5100's are new and they did not come with a shock cover boot. The oem Billy's have the blue boot

The AAL is new but I got it from local classifieds It was listed for a 2gen but in my google search the first gen has the same part #.

Anyone else run into this ?
