Has anyone been out to the park since the government shutdown in 2019? I'm going to visit in a few weeks but haven't been in years. I'm wondering how screwed up things got or if there's anything specific I should know about before going such as toilets not working or roads that are closed.
    Just curious. Thanks.

I just got back from my trip to Joshua Tree and all but one road was fully accessible. I was able to take the truck off-road on the Geology Trail and up to the base of Covington Flats. Covington Flats was awesome because I'd never been there before. If anyone else is considering the trip, October and April have always been the best times to go. Don't hesitate!

I drive through JTNP often, on my way to Vegas or past Old Dale on BLM land. Haven't camped there for 3-4 years since it got so popular via social media, hard to find any spots now. If you're coming from 10 there's a single lane road for a bit but they have a signal and there's not much of a delay. If you get a chance take Old Dale, lots of old mines out there and you can can primitive camp.

@OrangeCrash; good tip. Thanks. I got a spot at Jumbo Rocks for three nights because I used to go there as a teenager in the 90s. I was solo in a tent so I didn't need much space or commitment.

I used to come from the Los Angeles area so I'd enter the west entrance. Now I'm coming from Arizona so I came up from the south entrance which is a lot smoother and less crowded. I had a good time checking out some of the places I used to go and got to see a few new things now with the 4x4 ability.
