We did the Geology loop. Wasn't too much to see. We ate lunch at the big boulders where my sons got some claiming in. The most fun was Traveling on Old Crown road which connects to Old Dale Rd. The terrain going up some of the hills were a bit rocky and we had to take our time. We explored some old abandon mines. Be careful as that area has some mine pits that you can fall into.

Not one for campgrounds and avoid them when possible. We're camping out in the Old Dale Mining District.

pretty much very dry. Thier was a spot near the 3 wells area that had a small amount of water which called out to me.

i do want explore the mines more. Since this was a day trip, I did not have too much time. I'll do an invite next time.

Backcountry permits required for this? And are fires allowed?

I was reading backcountry road that you need permits. It's for safety of others, Incase people get stuck. Ranger also issue citation. However you can still drive around but make sure don't leave your car unattended.
If your planning a trip I would say give them a call and ask just to be safe.
