I get it may not be a big deal; just not something I want to do every time I get in my truck. To each their own.

This is more what I'm looking for. Does the wireless Carplay connect when you get in and start the truck... as you can tell I'm not a fan of having to dick around getting my phone to connect.

Not looking to surf the web or watch videos. Just want stable wireless Carplay for Google Maps, Spotify. That was my main reason for wanting the Pioneer. I figured it would be more stable and not as much tweaking to keep it working. But reviews here for this are positive and 1/2 the price.

I hate my stock navigation and not an overall fan of Entune.

I'm the same as you. It'd be a nice gimmick to have those features, but I'd probably never use em. As long as maps and Spotify work, that's 99% of my usage.

I use them from time to time which is nice but when driving is CarPlay 99% of the time. With Google Maps for example you can download offline maps on the HU. That saved me up in Tahoe when my phone died. I used that for Nav. Just did not have any traffic but helped.

Once and awhile it wont connect on wireless but most of the time its automatic. You could always have the wired one for back up but its been good most of the time.

Hmm, for some reason mine doesn't ever want to connect automatically. It's the weirdest thing, if I open the wifi menu it immediately connects to my phones hotspot, but I have to open the wifi menu or it won't connect most of the time. Not a big deal to me though as it takes less than 10 seconds to do but it would be nice if it just connected.

I would avoid this unit at all costs if you don't want to have to screw with it. This head unit is FAR from plug and play..

So mine does that if I dont turn on the hotspot before starting the truck, or if I turn the hotspot off at a store then turn it back on when I leave the store.

Here is my normal driving that it works 90% of the time for.

Truck is parked in driveway, home wifi is connected.
Turn on hotspot, get into truck.
Start driving, when I get out of range it switches over to hotspot.
Get to store and turn off truck, but leave hotspot on phone going.
Get back to truck and turn on truck, hotspot connected before I even turn on the radio.

These radios dont so much turn off, they just go to sleep. So they remember the hotspot, when you turn off the hotspot, it resets some of the linking (IP or something) and the radio needs to manually connect again.

I don't mind screwing with it to get it working. Not afraid of that. But I don't want to have to mess around with it every time I get in.

I have a pretty good idea on the setup as I've used Android mini PCs for emulators, streaming services (Kodi) etc. And they required a lot of setup and maintenance to keep running. It's the constant upkeep more than anything I don't care to do.

@jbd73.. did you ever find a fix for the JBL rear speakers and sub?? Installed my 10.1 the other day and had the exact same problem you described, w/the pop and everything!

    Thanks

update.. cut the two wires as shown on p.2 and now all speakers are working. Fader is not working, amp is only fed by the front outputs which I guess is what jbd73 was talking about. It's livable, but not ideal. I'll see what joying recommends.

Did you ever get your front cam or steering buttons to work? I've read just about all these posts and unfortunately I about where you are/were. Waiting on Joying currently.

I successfully updated to the new UI from joyings website. Definitely better user interface

I never did get my front cam working but the steering wheel controls do work. I'll have to take a look tonight at what I had mine set to in order to get that working. I do still stand by what I said previously though. Would not buy this unit again

Which Joying unit do you have again? I just updated to the latest update and it's still the same ol ugly UI as before. I end up installing a launcher each time there's an update because the stock UI is really bad.

Does anyone know if/how the joying AHD backup camera can be wired into the stock backup camera plug at the tailgate? As is you need to run the video cable back into the cab and splice into the backup light power. I figured since it's an "add on" it'd be a bit more plug and play....I'd rather not touch the existing wiring if I don't have to.
