Oh I know, they have to be counted as two even though they are under the GM umbrella....kind of like Toyota/Scion/Lexus.....Honda/Acura..

That's for sure, I went to see the Frontier 2x and the Canyon looks roomier inside but it's up there in price once you add tires and A/C as options lmaoo!
    I J/K but its close

    Cheers!

The interior and ride quality on a Colorado/canyon kill the Tacoma. But Tacoma wins when it comes to overall build quality and off road capability.

At one time the GMC line and Chevy line shared the looks, but under dash the GMC had a few more fasteners to hold things down and the same displacement engine had different internals, better quality overall and I've preferred the GMC ever since. Now IDK if there any any differences at all other than sheet metal, I would love to take them apart and see.

    Cheers!

Frontier sales increase, Tacoma sales down.

    1. Frontier - reliable (10 year old design probably a lot more reliable than 3rd Gen)
    2. Frontier - rebates, cheap
    3. Tacoma - reported problems so far scaring away prospective "real truck" buyers who want a truck to be reliable (see #1 above) and don't care too much about "dated" looks.
    4. Tacoma - people seeing through Toyota's 3rd gen for what it really is - a Gen 2.5 . I now see people are complaining about squeaking clutches, howling "kazoo" windshields, one guy has actual pictures of rust on his frame (not welding splatter like some earlier pictures showed) to name a few. Many of the same problems arising that occurred on the 2nd gen trucks. Not the completely new truck like Mike Sweers said (well aside from the seat belt bracket)
    5. Tacoma - pic below

I wasn't impressed with the interior when I looked at it at the Dallas Car show. I really wanted to like the Colorado. No thanks. I'd buy a fullsize Silverado first.

Not trying to start a flame war nor am I bashing your truck.

My comment was directed at Toyota for putting in what I think is a 1/2 assed job on the 3rd gen. Not saying the 2016 is a bad truck but I think Toyota could have done a lot better and put more effort in.

Heck, I was willing to plunk down money to replace my 2nd Gen but I'll just keep putting miles on mine until Toyota ups their game. It's the only way they will listen.

I don't mind horrible MPG's as long as the truck performs as a truck. Even though the Frontier's engine and drivetrain are old, they are proven.

I've not driven a Frontier since '12. But at the time, comparing '13 base model to '13 base model, the Taco trumped the Nissan for 3 reasons, at least back then.

    1. No RC on the Nissan
    2. Much better interior quality for the Taco
    3. When I added a/c, sliding glass and a bedliner to the Nissan, it was several hundred $ more than the Taco...which already had those items...2 of them standard and the sliding glass was $140

So buy a Frontier and be happy like I am, not one trip to the stealership so far, no issues, so good!

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Mines never been back. Been offroad half its life. In water to the doors countless times. I have better things to do than nitpick the truck apart
