The back way requires high clearance and 4wd (I suppose some rear locked 2wd's could attempt it but I sure wouldn't), but the front way can be made in a Honda Civic. They keep it graded because people live up there and that's their main way back and forth. It's a fun prerunner road though with quite a few switchbacks near the top but wide enough for 2 way traffic with the exception of a couple spots where the old railroad tracks used to cut through.

So it looks like the road we ended up on was Silver King Mine road, and it basically ended not too far at all from where we were. I remember passing by that big mining complex on the east side of us, so this had to be the road. So, had we turned north onto Happy Camp Canyon Rd at that power substation, we would have been able to get all the way back around to Montana Mountain. Just an FYI for anyone wanting to go back down the same trail we did this weekend... it won't go much further.

Finally got the video uploaded. Keep in mind this was my first stab at using Windows Live movie maker so forgive the tackiness of the production...

Not sure why YouTube squished it so narrow. I'll try to fix that later.

You don't need LT to be smooth at reasonable speeds out there. In fact, to do anything above speeds a decent resi set will get you you should be fully caged anyway.

My truck runs way smoother than it did stock TRD OR setup with the fox resi's (and my back is really stiff due to expo pack leafs). With weight in the bed it's butter... and I've yet to air down since putting it on so it'd be even smoother then.

The only real advantage a pre-runner has in higher speed stuff is less weight in the front... but you can balance that out with weight in the bed (especially weight behind the axel) and with suspension setups. What you make up for it (ungodly amounts of extra traction and off-road ability in all situations).... more than pay off for that small easy fix of 150-200lb weight savings.

So, small idea here. Kinda a horrible example but my buddy in a stock setup (other htan some armor but stock tires, stock trd off-road suspension) had to do about 3-5mph max through here while I was doing around 25-30 easily while holding my droid for the video lmao... It's all hard pack/rock and you can't really see how rough the terrain really is... still

Near the Martinez Mine Trail for those interested.

We can't identify his lift. Best guess is Billy 5100's.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. I embarrassed to say I dont know what my suspension is. I bought it from a dealer used about a three weeks ago. It actually doesn't ride that bad on the street. Smoother than my stock 06 Taco for sure. Off road its a little stiff. I'll post some pictures of the suspension later today. The tires are 32" Nitto Grapplers. I was thinking of just getting some new coil overs up front with some Resi's.

Your shocks were much beefier than stock but they were all white with no markings and no settings to preload them like 5100's. Your coils are definitely aftermarket, but again they were all black with no labels or anything. They look just like my OMEs though.

Thanks, Eric. I'll set up an FTP site later today so if anyone has any other video clips, they can just drag/drop them in there and I will expand on the video I posted and make it better.

I'll post the address and login info later on. Kinda busy at work today.
