l recently had the trans pump go out on my truck (2002 Tacoma 3.4 4x4) and now need to get it replaced. I pulled the old one out and got a replacement from a junk yard that I was told was out of the same make and model. I checked around and it seems that the transmission that should be in there is an a340f, but the one I pulled out of the truck is missing the label were it says the model on the side. The one I got from the junk yard is an A340LE but setup for a transfer case. They seem pretty much identical and both have cable kick down switches (not drive by wire) but has anyone seen a A340LE in a 4x4? and if so, what did it come out of. (First two photos are of the replacement trans, third picture is the one that was just pulled.)

That’s an A340F. 30-40LE is just the way Aisin labels it.

Is there a way to tell? There is only one difference I could see between them in that near the rear of the transmission on the top there is an inspection cover with 4 bolts that can be removed where as the one that came out of the truck did not have the cover and was just cast solid.

I have installed the replacement transmission but before I install the transfer case I wanted to replace the rear seal on the transmission. Does anyone have any experience with these duralast oil seals? The dimensions of the seal is the same as the seal that came out just the outter face is metal and not rubber. It seems like it would work fine but I also don’t want to scratch the inside of the trans housing of the replacement trans. Any thoughts?
