Apparently Mr Sweers has retained counsel and a private investigator and they are currently scouring the internet for libel and slander cases to pursue. The article I read says there has been irreparable damage done to Mr Sweers reputation. Mr Sweers was one employee and his former employer (Chrysler) has a reputation for producing crap long before he came to the company and their track record has not improved since he left. Since joining Toyota North America many left over designs including rear drum brakes have been retained once again not attributable to Mr Sweers yet many internet posters have been regularly slandering him for such designs. Mr Sweers has taken far too much criticism for decisions made by current and past employers and is willing to do whatever it takes to clear his name of these baseless accusations.

Lol, if you are using normal and appropriate of amounts of brake pedal pressure for this size vehicle and you are still locking up. I can only think you're ABS is problematic or your brakes are overboosted.

You do realize that’s a double negative statement, meaning we should have confidence in our brakes...

I've gotten on my brakes hard a few times and they have been neither worse nor better than any of the other vehicles i have used that have four corner discs

Absolute lies. How can you make such statements when everyone who knows Mike Sweers name, has internet and YouTube know different.

Honestly, I've had to brake hard as well and my tires started locking up. I feel like abs won't work well when the tires are so light. After one scare, I keep a huge following distance. The pedal feel is also unique. It's hard (for me at least) to feather the brakes.

I think you have to come at the choad sideways maybe to at least get it in, in order to choke on it. It’s like a shark trying to eat a beach ball.

The problem with the ABS is the driver. When you slam on the brakes the front end loads up due to weight transfer, which can actually lift the rear wheels off the ground, reducing the coefficient of friction causing the rear tires/brakes to become useless and lock up. Resulting in a skid.

The moral of the OP’s story is, he needs to slow down and maintain a safe following distance!

Find one truck that does. None of them are great. They are heavy.
The best stopping truck I have driven was an 05 chevy.. but that had drum brakes so there is no way it could be any good at all.

They need more modulation, which could be had with larger rotors and pads, but I really have no complaints otherwise.

1.these trucks have a safe track record, see how many posts with wrecked tacos that everyone walked away from without a scratch. Yes nothing to do with your post I know, but you have an ‘18 with TSS, it shouldn’t have to get to that point...I’m in SoCal too and there is no rain or snow that would have disabled it...

    2. We have ABS, and brake distribution technology, how is it locking up again?

    3. Buying the vehicle we knew there were rear drums...but we still have ABS, how is it locking up again?

    From Toyota:
Star Safety SystemTM2 — includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),27 Traction S Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force
Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA)28 and Smart Stop TechnologyTM (SST)

How much more could we ask for aside from rear rotors? Is this not enough tech?

**edit - you’re used to the track but that’s a defined environment, with known turns and no surprises. Not the same as the road so being an expert on the track doesn’t mean variables on civilian roads are the same, surprises can happen a lot more on the streets than track, key is to drive safe. You can only avoid what you have control over.

Driving an 18 wheeler doesn’t compare because you already know to keep safe distance, and comparing it’s brakes to the Tacoma? If you’re locking up an 18 wheeler then your jack hammering for sure. Not sure the relation here.

And no one forced you to buy your truck.

Let's see... 160,000 on my 1st gen, 135,000 on my 2nd gen, 33,000 on my 3rd gen. Still waiting for the brakes to fuck with me.

If your brakes are locking up, something is not right with your shiny new truck. Dealer time.
