Hmm... majority of the braking power comes from the front so.......

Just yesterday, I was on a two lane road, coming around a sweeping left-hander, only to find someone stopped to make a turn right at the end of the turn. The brakes preformed flawlessly.

What I was told (I don't know enough about brakes to be sure) was that during testing, Toyota found that disk brakes on a light truck with an empty bed had a tendency to warp.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I plan to upgrade to disk brakes whenever my rear drums eventually go.

Have had 7 Tacomas and have never had any brake problems or felt unsafe because of the brakes. A 2000 S10 I had is a completely different story. If you were braking, and hit any type of imperfection in the road, the ABS would kick in and it would feel like your breaks were failing as you were headed towards the vehicle in front of you. GMs solution? Remove the fuse to disable the ABS.

Umm its from 170 feet. Already at speed.
Also 0-60 time is same as 2nd gen, but 3rd passes and tows faster than 2nd.
Probably because 3rd has 18% more hp over 2nd.

I know, and I love my truck. I was just jumping in before any of the usual 3rd gen bashers got to it. I don't have any problem with the power or the breaking on this truck. It actually stops better than a Ford Focus I used to drive did.

Keeping a safe following distance is a no brainer. My trucks brakes work very well.

Never had some issues with brakes on my 1st gen. Discs were somehow warped and drums needed new pads and resurfacing after 100K miles.

<Sarcasm>I was horrified, really only 100K?!?!? HJow completely unacceptabe!!</sarcam>

EDIT: I am not nor have I ever been a professional truck or anything driver.

This is the story of roughly 2-5 seconds of my life and my Taco's "horrible" braking.

Last week coming to work a family of ducks decided to dart across the road 2 cars ahead of me with traffic moving about 50mph. The first car a small sedan, a Nissan I think, stopped with no trouble other than a bit of swerve likely to avoid being hit by the SUV in the left lane what was also slamming on their brakes. The SUV in front of me, a 2015-ish GMC, slammed on the brakes and swerved to the left shoulder his ABS clearly actiuvated as I could hear his tires chirping not skidding. His front bumper looked to be even with the sedans rear bumper, but he safely avoided hitting him. I hit my brakes and turned toward the center median to avoid possibly hitting the GMC. This was around 7 am, S Florida's high humidity had wet grass everywhere. I did steer into the grass and could feel and hear the ABS modulating the brakes as each tire left eh pavement and entered the wet grass. I cam to a stop about 1/2 a car length behind the SUV with only my rear passenger tire on pavement. I sat there and watched watched the ducks leave the road and continue across the median.

As all of us restated our commute, I watched the rear view to see how badly I had dug into the grass and could not see any skid marks on the grass. On my drive home I slowed and looked over the area, I could see a few skid/scuff marks on the pavement, likely from the GMC. I could not see a mark on the grass. I have left bigger ruts in my lawn while mowing.

Bottom line, the brakes on my Taco did the job very well, better than the SUV from the looks of things. I stopped in a shorter distance than I expected leaving 5 ducks, 3 of whom were ducklings, unharmed and 3 vehicles without a scratch.

Expect your Taco to stop like a truck, anticipate as much as possible, assume someone else with drive no better than half as effectively as you do, and put the FRIGGIN phone down and everything will likely go well.
