Never tightened them down a single time the entire time it was on the truck. That thought didn’t cross my mind once.

A little late on these, was the install pretty straight forward? How are you liking them?

Which clamps (additional for the Leer) did you purchase and do you have some photos you can post of the clamps in place on the Leer shell?

Sure. You can see the difference between the Leer mounts (that bolt through the skirt of the cap) and the additional clamps. These clamps are a specific design that uses the Toyota rail system. I got them from Amazon. They cost about $35 for the set of 4. (The Leer dealer did not have them. I asked.)

Thanks, I suspected that is what they were. They look identical to what I had on my ARE topper mated with my old 06 Tacoma.

Glad to see that they do fit with the Leer product which I have on order.
Did you put anything against the Leer carpet surface under the top portion of the clamp to minimize any material ripping when torqueing down?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, easier than most actually because these stiffeners utilize 3 bolts (2 on the bottom of the L, 1 on the top of the L) so its just a matter of bolting them in place then drilling. The hardest part was fitting a nut on the other side, which wasn't really hard at all. They provide all the hardware you need so so far I really like em

No, the Leer headliner is not really a traditional carpet material. It appears to be identical to the BedRug material (which you can see on my tailgate), which is made of recycled plastic water bottles. I think it will withstand compression. Those clamps aren't moving around, and so there's no problem with surface abrasion.

Just ordered mine last night, looking forward to getting these on. Thank you!

Out of curiosity. how long did you have your cap for? did you have a rack on top of it? how much weight was resting on your bed?

I am asking because I recently installed a bed rack to install a RTT and I know I should get the bed stiffeners as well but not sure how soon I should get them. Prob right away.

I would say sooner than later of course. I am curious to know as well how long it would take to start bowing out. But in all reality, depends on how much off road flexing you're doing and how much weight you're carrying.

I was really interested in the Lil-B's. But that bottle opener look vicious to me. Bet it could rip open an arm if you got to close.

I am glad I found this post, my snug top is coming in a couple of months. I guess I have to buy bed stiffener, clamp rails, and rubber sealant. Thanks

Oh boy, is that necessary? I have a 1.5 in block now in the back...this is getting expensive. I still want to buy roof and cap rack with led light bar.:spending:

I'm not really sure either. Research says it's likely. Your adding a couple 100 ponds just with the shell. Then add any other weight that makes it's new home there?

I would recommend it. My topper does not come in for a little while but I installed the AAL a few months back and it supports weight in the bed much better. Rides nicer too.

The bottle opener is probably about 1.5 inches in length and the hook diameter barely fits my ring finger. Looks vicious but is too small for a full arm.. maybe half of your arm can fit ;)

I really like the design of the support with exception of that hook. I really cant understand why the manufacturer doesn't see that as a liability. Looks to me like if someone was struggling with a load back there and got up against that hook just right, it could slice you up pretty good.
