Ok , I hear ya man, also check the torque on your U bolts from your leafs while you are under there...I have heard quite a few of these were loose from the factory, 1 out of 8 of mine were not torqued properly, also might want to see if your zerks on your drive shafts u joints are greased also, mine were bone dry and required about 12 to 15 pumps of NLGI2 grease from Mobil to get them purged . My trans fluid was fine, and let me tell you, what a fucking pain in the ass that was, I would gladly pay a local indy trans to do that again. Anyhow, good luck to you, hope you get this resolved soon. I can imagine its pretty annoying I am sure.

Yeah I tried to get them to check the tranny before I took delivery. My expectations are low that it actually occurred. No shifting issues though so far :fingerscrossed:.

    Diff levels were fine.

Couldn't find my grease gun and I could have sworn I just used it a couple of weeks ago. So the driveline will have to wait.

No zerks on the rear and just two on the front as far as I could tell.

Same here, just 2 on front, mine took about 12 pumps to purge, I used Mobil 1 blue 222 NLGI-2 grease because it was free from work. Good luck bro.

Here's the details on my Tacoma. 2 weeks ago I took my 2017 Tacoma TRD, (Double Cab/ Long Bed) to Toyota for 5000 mile service. As a test I asked them to drive the truck and see if they hear the noise that so many of use have. when I picked up the truck the following day, they said YES we hear it (positive 1st step) The service department asked me to leave the truck one day so they can try and figure out what's going on. The first day they had the Tacoma, Toyota Corp Engineering told the lead service tech to replace the Differential, so they did. No Change in the noise (either the Differential is not the cause or its a design issue ????????) ! So now Engineering is saying to replace wheel bearings. I should have an update in a few days. I'm hopeful that they will find the problem. I told the service manager, that I'm fine if they have to change out all components on the truck until they figure it out. So I'm hopeful that its just a matter of time, before they find the cause, we will see how long this takes. Fingers Crossed !

Well that sucks, hopefully the wheel bearings make a difference but I have a feeling they will not.

So I was playing again with the noise today. It sounds like when you blow across the top of a soda bottle. Not the LCA howl, my 17 came with plugs. It's weird that it's at such a specific speed. I feel like if it was the diff I could do it all the time, like my other truck...

Could feathering the gas either create vacuum or pressure in the exhaust to make that sound?

I suppose people with aftermarket exhaust wouldn't get it if that was the case. Time for more searching.

The Diff Howl I heard in the 17 was around 55-60 MPH.

The rest of the Story, Today I talked with the service manager. Corp Toyota said the noise is definitely coming from the Differential. Engineering said there is nothing wrong with the differential, its just the way its setup. They said there might be a TSB coming that will address this. So I guess at this point we Just Drive. I told the Service Manager that if mine locks up going down the road, they get to buy me a new Truck!

They were going to change the wheel bearings today, however Corp. Toyota told them they would be wasting there time.

If you have the chance to speak to Engineering ask why some are doing it and others are not, something has to be going on.

I'm guessing that a lot of them are but people don't/aren't noticing.

I can hear it anywhere from 40-60mph. But I'm looking for it.

    55mph is the honey spot.

    Thanks.

I think I'll still complain to the dealer at my next service if for nothing less than to document it.
