Hi Folks! I am a long time auto enthusiast and long time Ford fan. For a number of reasons I've decided to head in a different direction. I am looking to replace my '96 Ranger (occasional utility use) and '08 Fusion (every day driver) with a new Tacoma but I have to admit I am having a little difficulty wrapping my head around this whole allocation thing Toyoata has going on. I am used to ordering what I want from Ford the way I want it so this process has been a whole new experience and a little unnerving.

I put a deposit down on a SR5 V6 on 2-17-22, just hope the wait isn't too long.

Don't hold your breath OP! Most wait a few months if not more. But trust me it will be worth the wait!

Welcome! I put deposit down on SR5 1/29. I’m in MN. Dealer said 3 months…maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

Time to do some searching and reading on how it works. Been discussed in plenty of threads. Most are still confused but those that understand it get a truck quicker than others.

    Thank you for the "Welcomes!"

I know it is going to take some time and after some reading on here I am beginning to understand the process a little better. It still seems like a rather strange business model though.

My only concern would be if I had to get a '23 instead of a '22 and the engine options were to change. I do not want a hybrid or a smaller turbo charged 4 cylinder as is the industry trend.

    I wouldn't worry about that.

    A) even in today's mad-ass market Id be surprised if you have to wait a full year for an SR5.

    B) the Tacoma still has quite a few years left before the next generation drivetrain gets unveiled. A 6 year old platform is a young adult for Toyota.

    Welcome. :D

I am not as concerned with getting it quickly as I am getting the engine I want! Hopefully it won't be a problem!

Good news from my dealer, I put a deposit down on 2/17/22. Got a text from my salesman today stating ETA is between 4/14 and 4/19 although to get this truck I had to fudge my original plan and switch to 4WD. If this is accurate, not too bad of a wait. Saw from 2 different sources that 2023 should be the Gen 4 Taco which is not my preference. The 2 sources were the April '22 Car issue of Consumer's Report and a SEMA trade publication.
