If it was a true Hawaii version it would be 30yrs old, rusted as hell, cost 500 bucks, but still run like a champ.

The reason why it gets a lot of hate from us in Hawaii on TW is that it’s an SR5 that’s not 4x4. At what they are selling them at. It’s only getting stock 17” wheels that are from the limited line. You get the same nav system , head unit and back up camera are the same you get in the SR5. If you don’t plan on off roading and just want a point A to B Truck then this is for you.

Thanks! BTW...it comes with 18" wheels. I'm not looking for off roading. Primarily HD and Lowes supplies for my "fixer upper" in Makakilo. :)

The irony here is that I bet they would sell better on mainland. All these mofos would swoon over some special hawaii edition Toyota 4x4.

All Tacomas are sweet trucks, and there are lovers and haters for all editions and trim levels.

The bones of all the Tacos are the same.

The drivetrain can be 2WD or 4WD

The engine can be 4cyl or V6

The cab can be 2 door or 4 door

After that it’s mostly cosmetics and gadgets.

If you like the cosmetics, the drivetrain, the engine choice, the features, and the price......do it.

My suggestion is to see the fifference
Go look at the different trims on the lot. Hell, I'll never ever go 4wheeling so 4x4 was out. TRD PRO was nice but again, don't need 4x4.
Only 4 wheeling is probably rocks and sand at Sandy Beach. I took 2 months to decide. Grab the brochures, look at the trims and see what you like. I've always liked power so bigger motor for me. With the V6, the tranny doesn't shift so many times . Mileage isn't too bad. After engine broken in, now at 3k, I'm averaging 19-20mpg.
Test drive the trucks and not what he says or she says. I didn't even read a single word on TW when looking for the truck. I wanted V6 and leather, wife wants sunroof so I got the Tech Pkg in TRD Sport. The aluminum running board is NICE... keeps your doors getting dinged . Not once did I regret the purchase. Not once did I say " I should've gotten this...or that". What I laugh about are guys who buys the truck and a week later decide to buy a different model because they didn't like it. Servco guys are cool about letting you roam the lot and not hang over you like fuckin vultures (Cutter). This is my first Toyota. Awesome truck. It has little quirks needed sorting out in beginning like Entune freezing but scheduled services fixes all that. Not sure if matters for you, I told the sales guy I do not want a truck that was test driven or sitting on lot for weeks. I told him I want one off the trailer. I had to wait 1 month for it and had 2 miles on odometer. People who test drive vehicles beat the shit out of them . Freeway is around the corner from Servco and no time for motor to warm up for it to be beaten up. All vehicles are brought in on trailers to Servco.
If you see how delivery guys drive BRAND NEW cars to dealers, you'd request the same. I've seen BMWs , Mercedes, Audis being raced by idiots cutting in and out traffic and flooring it on open roads. One asshole kid cut me and almost clipped me so I chased him to the BMW dealership.
Not a pretty sight. Grabbed the manager, took my dash cam and told him to play it. These delivery guys beat the shit out of brand new 70k 80k cars on way to dealer.

I couldn't agree more on the way these cars are driven by the delivery drivers! Glad you busted at least one...but I'm sure he was back at it half an hour later. Did not think of requesting a truck right off the delivery trailer. That is a great idea! Thanks for all the info!

Now thinking about it, salesman brought my truck in with 28 miles on it..... should've got my truck from servco Kauai. All they care about is closing at Mapunapuna. Didnt even call me when my plates were ready, I just happened to think "oh shit, its been like a month and a half, I wonder if its in yet" and called them to check myself

A lot of dealerships in Hawaii (Cutter) love to add on a “select inventory fee” or whatever they decide to call it for that month. It’s absurd and I always called them out on how delivery fees are charged by the manufacturer on the window sticker already.

Gotcha..I know what you are talking about. Kia, Mitsubishi and Ford do that for sure. These pics were from the Servco in Waipahu. That was the first thing I looked for...and did not see any upcharges from the dealer tags. The Kia dealership (and Mitsubishi) mark the cars up between 2-4K. They are crazy..and anyone who pays that is more crazy.

I don't think so...but not certain. It could be the angle of the photo....there are so many vehicles there...you can barely walk between them...so the angle may have been odd or something.

factory side step, didn't get a chance to do anything to it yet, haven't even got to put it in 4 wheel mode yet. Lame, but I work a lot.
Haha, Cutter still has crazy add on fees huh? I guess why not if you are them. I bought a car from them when I lived on Oahu back in the late 80's-90's. Looks like some things never change.

Hawaii is the biggest Tacoma customer, and this is what Toyota gives you?!?!

Yeah I saw this on FB while I was there and got a little excited, but it's not a real upgrade from the usual offerings.

They should give you a color not found in the other 49, like Mango Yellow, or Papaya Orange. Or maybe Matte Lava Black. Or Loco Moco Brown.

I saw a gazillion Tacos on the Big Island in March. Not too many unusual colors, in fact I don't think I saw a single Cav Blue. Lots of quicksand though and a couple of Cements. And every age and trim line and accessory known to man.

Don't know about Oahu, but there are several well-known places for offroading on the Big Island, so the 4WD would come in handy.

Looks like 1/2 of the ones I see in Waianae, big wheels-small tires and not meant to go off-road
