I understand you’re under warranty but depending on where you live I wonder if you could pull the drums and just take a short drive, front brakes do most stopping anyway. Just something to maybe consider troubleshooting yourself

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
There’s also a TSB for drum brake issues that involves replacing axle shafts (but this is more for a noise), personally I wouldn’t touch anything if the trucks still under warranty for now

You are not screwed, your truck is under factory warranty. Hell, you can even buy the extended warranty, if you so desire; you have until 36/36 to buy one.

Take it to another dealer for warranty work, the one your dealing with has already shown their incompetence/indifference.

He could also pull the parking brake at speed (carefully) and see if the vibration exists. If it does, the rear is the issue; not the front.

They turned the rear drums which in itself is odd. In today's world drums almost always are nor turned, they are cheap. When I started driving,45 years ago, geez I'm getting old, we turned rotors and drums, in the last 20 years I have never turned either, just replaced. There is so little material on these parts now they are throw always. People have already said it and I will also," take it to another dealer and send Toyota corporate an email with your displeasure with the dealership". Good luck.

Exactly. I turned rotors and drums in the early 2000's but as the metal got cheaper some of the them were impossible to hold a cutting tool. Too soft. When I got to Tulsa in 2011, the brake lathe had been moved to a corner and we were replacing only.

I test drove a 2017 with a bad vibration and during the test drive I grabbed the sales guy arm and put it on the wheel. He freaked immediately. I told him this truck was screwed. I'm sure they sold it anyway. I bought a 2019 later with no problems. I think the driveshaft is the issue but zero keyboard mechanics will listen. LOL

Everyone that owns a Tacoma should watch this. Even tho this dude is a convicted dumbass for defacing National Parks...lol, this video is truth.

Update: Dealer called me today, I told them my problems and about how the previous owner seemed to be having the same problems, they immediately said to bring it in, and they will give me a loaner vehicle, everything will be covered. I am going to give them a chance to fix the issues, and if they don't I will see about returning it. If not I will do what others have stated and take to another dealer to diagnose and then go from there. I just feel like since I just bought it from them, that I will have a better chance of returning it, if I let them try to resolve the issues first.

There is a vibration that occurs from front without braking, but the shutter is from the rear when braking. I did do the e brake thing and the shutter while braking is for sure coming from rear. But something doesnt feel right with the front either just cruising, alot of steering wheel vibration.

You are on the right path. Bring copies of the previous work done on the truck -- they have that in their system but you want them to know that you are aware that they did this work, couldn't find the problem and sold you the truck anyway. You can do that gently without being a jerk about it, of course. Hey, work with me should be your mantra ...
Make sure you let them know that the truck is under warranty so they should replace everything that they feel the issue might be -- there's service money in it for them, so they should be willing to be more lenient. When in doubt -- replace it under warranty generously.

And bring a notebook and document everything -- date you called, date they called back, subject matter. Build a case file ... even if you don't think you will need it.

    Good luck !

Vibration in steering wheel while driving, and vibration in seat and rear while braking.

My pool bet is front tire/wheel balance, rear drums out of round. (Defective, not wear based)

BTW, no dealer offers a 'dealer warranty' when the vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty. There is no need to.

Hope they get you all settled.

Update: they called and said they found the problem, that the axles need replaced:( that they dont have the parts ,it will be a week or so, for me to come get the truck and they will call me when they get them. Should I go through with it or try to return the truck, this is annoying and i felt like they knew this before they sold it to me.

That's a tough call. I think if they'd take it back, then I'd walk away from it.
That thing seems to have had an awful lot of work done that shouldn't have been needed, and now it needs axles? Was it a stunt truck in a action movie? I'm just baffled...

I'd say maybe someone slid into a curb, although I would have expected the control arms to have been replaced as well. Perhaps it was just the axle the entire time?

    To recap:
    1. Brakes turned
    2. Vacuum pump replaced twice
    3. Valve was leaking
    4. Lifters and rocker arms replaced
    5. Axles need replacing

OP, did you ever do a VIN check? If so, did the dealer provide it, or did you look it up yourself?

It's possible that this Taco has just been unlucky, or that, the dealer that was working on it was inexperienced and threw parts at it. It's also possible that all of these issues were caused by the PO, or that perhaps the only issue has only ever been a single faulty part. If you do end up keeping it, have an independent mechanic do an inspection. There are too many red flags here that don't make sense.

The truck wasn’t damaged. There is a tsb out for this. It’s a known problem by Toyota. Something to do with axle spacing to drums. It has fixed the problem for some but, not others. Sorry I can’t give you more info.
