Take it back to the dealer and address your concerns . If less than 30 days it should be still covered under dealer .

They dont pick and choose, but some dealers have better service and better techs. My dealer (not Toyota) constantly fixes issues that the 2 other dealers in the area cant manage to repair. We just have a few badass techs and all of ours care.

Went and got the truck today and asked to speak to a manager, he didnt like it when i said return the truck. He said they didnt find the problem when the previous owner complained and traded it in, they just happened to find it when I bought it, go figure. Also one of the techs was listening to me talk to the manager, and mentioned it was one of the couple of trucks that were making the normal noise they all make, but they didn't know it was normal and just replaced a bunch of shit to try to stop it. Lifters, rockers, vacuum pump. I was getting the run around when I mentioned I don't want the truck, I am not sure what to say or how to go about returning it.

lol you would think so, I mean the truck is in perfect shape, but the techs apparently didn't know the engine noise was normal and started throwing parts at it.

Trying to decide whether to wait to see if the axle replacement fixes it or grow a set of balls and demand a refund or seek legal council . Manager I spoke to kinda ignored me when I spoke of returning the truck and didnt really know how to go about it.

Here lies the problem I see; so the technician's that couldn't find the problem, or wise enough to look for TSB's or remember them, these are guys that have been inside your engine....throwing parts in there?

yea makes me nervous, never bought from a dealer, guess its partially my fault for not diving into the service records when i bought it. But I thought hey its a tacoma, no way the engine has already been broken into. Worse case scenario, ill just keep the truck if they fix it, and since it has 3 years left on the 60,000 PT warranty ill just trade it in before it runs out. I just don't know how to go about returning it. I traded in my car with positive equity, and they already sent in the tag, tax, registration. So I don't see me getting all my money back. But again never dealt with a dealership, don't know how all that works. I've always bought used/private sale and worked on my own stuff, but decided to buy something newer so I wouldn't have to.

You said you bought it "as is". I don't think you have any legal recourse for a return. I mean, we all know what "as is" means, right?

However, it is still under warranty and you CAN insist that it be fixed, which it sounds like they are doing. If it doesn't fix it, go to a different dealer.

^^^ I'm not saying that to use as a "bulldog" to unleash against the dealer, quite the opposite. But if you want to know what your consumer rights are in the state where you made your purchase, then you need to have a consult before asking how to unwind the contract. The dealer certainly won't tell you what recourse you might or might not have. They won't even let you know that they know, their best defense is to stare blankly like a carrot just came marching out of your ears. If there is an off chance to unwind it, then the only odds of success is knowing exactly what to say and how to say it. We the armchair internet spectators can't do that for you, as much as we would love to.

If you arent just venting and really truly want to back out of the purchase, then pay your hourly consult fee and learn what your options are. Chances are your cheapest option is to let the dealer fix it and then you can turn around and sell it to the next poor bastard.

well decided to do some more looking around of what the "master" techs did, service record said they replaced the valve cover because it was leaking after them doing the lifters and rockers, well it is still leaking all around it and they broke different clips and have zip ties in there place. I am driving back there tomorrow. I fee like they they knew all this and didnt disclose it, I will try filing a complaint with toyota since this is a big toyota dealership . and contact a lawyer for advice.

Thanks for all the help guys, this forum is awesome. Not sure if anyone wants me to keep updating this post, but I may after its all settled. Even if this truck doesn't work out, I am set on a Tacoma. Glad to know there is a good community when I need help. Again thanks to everyone who took the time to give advice.

“Could not duplicate” is a good one lol. Try to find the conditions where it does shake and tell them about it. Might suggest you take the SA or someone with while you take it around the block to make it shake to prove to them that you’re not crazy.

had the same sh*t happen to me with my Subaru. Seats would creak like a mf but the second I pull into the service doors it stopped. Couldn’t duplicate. Ended up ripping my brand new Subaru apart and foam taping every piece of metal on the rails. Didn’t make a noise for 2 years til the day before I sold it.

If the shake is coming and going make sure you get your tires checked. Do a rotation and see if it’s just a bad tire on the front end. I’ve had a lot of cars running cheap/bad new tires that would shake that could never be pin pointed.

If you don't mind, and it is not too much trouble, please continue to post updates and a resolution on your issue. Not only do we care about you, your experience may help others.

I understand you bought the truck under the notion of "as is." Question for you -- does the purchase agreement have a return policy? I know you bought the truck as is but sometimes there is a clause in the purchase that enables you to have a 30 day (or sometimes longer) hassle free return.

I would call Toyota and open a case file. You have the right to go to Toyota arbitration (the address is listed in your service booklet).

I would also find another Toyota dealer. Ask for a certified master mechanic and have them review what this dealer is telling you. I would ask them to perform a CPO inspection on the truck and get a second opinion. You will have to pay for it but it won't be that much -- and if they do a great job you should have all of the warranty business done by them.

Like I said last week you can rile yourself up more and play this out over weeks of stress and doubts about the vehicle or you can pony up for a lawyer and get shit done, let them do their job. You got ripped off it happens all the time to everyone sadly. Give them a chance to make it right then bring in the pros who are trained to deal with this precisely. You will more than likely then get what you want and faster with some legal letterhead.

Why would you all of the sudden have trust in someone who so blatantly lied to you? They will never admit they knew the truck was compromised, why would they? You’re not a fool just take care of biz. Good luck my friend.

If the dealership had any clue they would see this thread and make things right immediately because they are gonna lose a lot of $$$ bc of their reputation.

Check with your local attorney generals office. Most states have rules where you can back out of a car deal within X days. I never had to worry about it in Texas but I believe Oklahoma was 90 days. They could prorate the wear/tear and mileage on the vehicle and charge it back out of the deal but you could largely back out without much penalty.

For every 1 person that will see this thread, there are 5 customers that wont even google the word "Tacoma". They'll just stroll in, stroke a check, and drive out. An OKC Chevrolet dealership has been fined $500,000 per year for like the last 10 years for underhanded business practices and they are still going strong. They knock the ignorant in the head and drive away the intelligent.
