I just picked up a 96 single cab short box 2.7 4cyl manual for $3500
165000 on truck 90000 on engine
    k&N intake
    brand new toyo 33x12.5x15
    has exhaust leak
has slight body damage just gives it character.
thought it was well worth the money.

Im planning on putting new exuast and header.
    change gears to 4.88
    bushwackers
    sliders
    bilstein 5100's and toytec aal
and find a shell for it. (If anyone know where I can get a used one near Idaho.)

any tips or suggestions or help finding a good deal on any of that stuff would be sweet.

Gears for sure if you have stock 3.58's like me. I'm surprised it's driving well with 33x12.50's and stock gears manifold and exhaust. I have the 2004 mini header from stock tacomas because mine was cracked like a bunch of others between the 3rd and 4th cyl. Helped a little. Be careful of exhaust and catalytic work or you'll set off the CEL from those picky O2 sensors we have.

Great price on the truck, just replace what doesn't work and upgrade what you want to work better, and have fun with it.

You should have 4.10 gears stock.

And find out what kind of lift it has on it and make sure it's not a cheap spacer/block lift. You will want a high quality lift if you plan on doing any decent wheeling.

    It's 4x4. What's the point in buying a truck that isn't.
I'll have to check out that Id/wa forum

HAHA, good, just maing sure. I asked because you said you had a 4" lift...and 4" is a lot on IFS.

BTW, My self and a couple of locked 4 Runners are going wheeling tomorrow out by Hemingway (past nampa). We are meeting at 12pm. Wanna come?

I loved my 5 lug very very much as well...untill I got the 4x4, then I loved that one even more. As long as you trade taco for taco you won't care about letting the last one go! Time for a 4x4:thumbsup:

    Fuck you too

I have considered it a few times but can't stomach getting rid of this thing. It still amazes me with its capabilities being essentially one wheel drive and I don't think I will ever be able to sell it. It's either gonna get totaled (God forbid) or bought back (I'm hoping the re frame turns into a buyback by the time mine is ready to die, I have till 2019).

OP you got yourself a nice toy there. I say just drive it and upgrade things as they become an issue.

I would but I've been super busy lately. Going up to pine this week end and test out the 4 wheel drive for the first time.
