after looking for months I finally found me a very nice Tacoma. It’s a 2001 Tacoma SR5 2wd. It only has 69k original miles. Never wrecked been take. Great care of garage kept. It came from Ohio though so both quarter panels ya e some rust bubbles. The rest of the truck is rust free and clean as a whistle. The interior look like new infact it looks like it’s never been sat in.

I have 2 questions. One where can I find drivers and passengers side of the bed to replace? Two I have read where Toyota has a lot of problems from the frames rusting out on those models. Beside the bed sides it looks great the frame has normal surface rust on it that’s about it. Where these frames weak or just had rust problems. I have found where they make weld in weld over frame from the cab back on the Internet. Should I worry about the frame or since it just has surface rust should I be ok. It runs and drives like a dream. It has the small 4 cylinder in it.

I bought the truck because I’m in a wheelchair and my duramax is getting harder and harder to get in and out of as I get older.

Is there anything I need to know about this truck I need to address ?

Good find! The frame issues were because there weren't enough drain holes in the frame, so they would rust from the inside out. If there is no protection on it currently, I would probably try to treat whatever surface rust you see with Rust-Oleum and then use a spare can of undercoat over top of that.

It wouldn't hurt to call a Toyota dealership to see if the frame was ever treated.
