Just bought a 3rd Gen 2017 TRD off-road. Did I make a mistake?

Just relax, enjoy your truck, and don't second guess yourself. You bought it for a reason, don't let other people's opinions outweigh your own.

I recently purchased my truck as well. I've owned it for about a month now, not very long but regardless I love this truck, it's purpose built, looks great and I've yet to have an issue that's made me regret my purchase. Being an optimistic I personally look forward to a long relationship with this truck. The dealers would not be able to sell Tacoma's at the prices we paid if these trucks were as bad as some may lead you to believe. Welcome to the forum, enjoy your truck. I'm enjoying the hell out of mine!

    And? Why?

OP's honest question deserves an honest answer.

Or we can all ignore your post and move on.

Its has a crap transmission and drivetrain. It howls, vibrates, shudders. It slams to a stop. Beds are misaligned out of the factory. Fluids are low out of the factory. The brakes buzz. The hoods flap in the breeze. The rear leafs squeak like an 80s f150.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is Toyotas lack of responsiveness.

You have guys checking trans fluid paperclips and $60 in fluid on brand new vehicles because dealers refuse but they are slipping and slamming down the highway. Duct taping parts to stop howls and buzzing. Some guy is about to make a mint on an aftermarket transmission controller because Toyota can't get their shit straight.

I guess I should add...that this piece of shit has been growing on me and I'm only sour again because the dealership is giving me the run around. (A dealership I've been to way too often).

I have a real love hate relationship with it. If they had reasonable competition I think they'd be getting their clocks cleaned.

Mistake? No way! I have the same model, but automatic transmission. I love this truck, you will too. That is an average price for the truck.

Join the meet ups, go wheeling with the people from the forum. You'll find the people who hate their truck won't usually be there. I got a perfectly normal 2017 with a few minor issues, but regardless, the friends I've made by meeting up and wheeling and camping and BSing will carry through to any future vehicle I own.

This site has two ways to use it. You can vent your frustrations and learn from those who have issues. You can use it as a way to further your enjoyment of camping, offroading, and modding....and find people who like doing that too. I can honestly say that I understand why people don't like the 3rd Gen, it is a different beast from my 4Runner and my 2nd Gens before it, but if this one was totaled in a wreck I would immediately go and buy exactly this truck again. I'm at 14,000 miles and 9 months of ownership.

They either can't afford a 3rd gen or their wives or moms won't allow them to buy one... so they're just jealous... it's called "sour grapes".

Hi op! im the blue truck thats on top of the flatbed. Just fyi. it was the camshaft sensor problem, truck is totally fine.
Towed to the dealer, they got the part in the next day, got my truck back and was on my way. just a small replacement part. I love the truck, its been great.

The problems with the 3rd gen now are minor, IMO. Its plenty capable, has enough hp. for what the engine is meant to do. Guys on the forum are like..

" i have no power, btw my last vehicle was a raptor"

Here she is last week truckin along..

I love my 2017. I had one blind spot sensor problem, and the dealer was quick to fix it. I'm getting close to 9k miles, I've customized it, and I love it more every day.

Coming to TW after buying a Tacoma is kinda like having a sore throat and going to WebMD. After 5 clicks of the mouse you think you have aids and about 2 weeks to live. You didn't make a mistake at all.
