    Youd rub worse with spacers.

Wide vs skinny tires in mud has been debated. Skinny tires are better in most situations imo.

So really, the only way to run 33' on 17' rims would be to do the pinch weld mod?!? Is there anything else I could do or add that would keep from doing that?

i have 33" bfg at k02s and i actually only had to cut my plastic fenders a little. they are 33x10.5x15s. honestly with a 3 inch lift in the front it looks like i could have gone with the 12.5s and been ok until getting offroad, im sure they would rub when stuffing.

I have 285/75/16 BFG KM2's and they only rub on the frame a little at full lock and rub the bolt heads on the rear flares when stuffed. Otherwise have no issue.

Exactly what I was thinking. Beautiful find.

Like others state above, tasteful mods on this beauty would be the way I would go, nothing outrageous. Wheels/tires of your choice, modest or freshened up lift, gray wire mod, complete service of the engine/tranny/etc. I would lose the bed liner (I had this in my new to me 04) and get it coated. Looks amazing and doesn't trap debris and shit under it.

Great truck! Please post pics as you go.

Ok. Here is the report... Engine looks great for a 15 year old engine. The only rust on the engine are some small various brackets holding components. I'll get those off, cleaned, and painted.

Frame. Looks decent for 15 years old. I'm going to clean that bad boy up with a pressure washer, degreaser, and some por-15 [sp] and a wire brush. I already got a body guy lined up to fix the dent in the back drivers side bed.

Belly protector and skid plate look a little rough and I will certainly take care of those issues.

Suspension. Needs some help, but already have plans for that... Wheelers... (Tried to place the order today but my day job got in the way and forgot they close at 1 on Friday). The leaf springs in the rear are completely level. I would say that is a problem and already got a fix for that.

I am thinking about completely redoing the break lines and putting steel braided break lines AND powers top pads and rotors on.

QUESTION... What do you do about rusted wheels (inside of the rims). Can I replace that OR how can I clean those up?

Pics to follow ASAP. It's a 3 year old's bath time right now...

    -Ryan

EDIT- Has anyone used the wheelers total lubrication stuff in the spray can? It's like $18(+) bones per can. Just wanted to see about results from that stuff.

Couldn't do the pics because it was pouring down in Houston. I took it to Toyota to get checked out and get an oil change while it's there.

We'll see what it comes back with.

I ordered a rust conversion/cleaning/encapsulating kit and some new undercarriage coating last night. Also ordered Carhartt seat covers and hopefully the engine will all check out fine and we'll be on to cleaning it up and getting it ready for the lift suspension lift, bumper and winch.

Looking at getting a Warn M8000-S. I honestly haven't ever used a synthetic cable before, but why not- right?!?

Sounds great man let me know if you have questions on the frame treatment.

As for the winch I used to have a warn vr8000 with steel cable and never had any issues. I thought about going with the m8000 on the taco when I decide to buy one but not sure if it's worth the extra money since i only use it 3-4x/year

Synthetic is a great option safety-wise. I hear you do have to care/maintain for it more than a steel cable. Not a great option for me since I live in the Northeast

Just ordered Carhartt seat covers for the front, and ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Eastwood. I got 2 gallons of the degreaser, 1 gallon of the rust reversal, the spray gun for the coating, 2 quarts for the coating, wire brushes for the drill, some chassis paint, some fast etch, and the encapsulator for the inside of the frame.

I'm planning on using at least 1 complete gallon of the degreaser with a pressure washer to get everything clean, and multiple, multiple coats of the reversal, and 2 complete coats of the encapsulator on the inside of the frame, a coat of the fast etch and then the rubberized under coating. I've never taken one off, much less put another one on. I went to school in NY so I'm familiar with I the road salt issue, but never did any kind of treatment- just good washes. (I only had a car my last year in school so I didn't have to worry about it THAT much). I also plan on removing the belly pan/protector and skid plate- taking them down to bare metal both sides- and completely repainting with the chassis paint. I have an air compressor and both HVLP and Gravity Feed guns- so no issue there.

@neatoneto - does that sound like a good plan for the undercoating removal and redo?

I should have the kit in late next week so we'll see what happens. I should have the truck done and back by Thursday- so that should be good timing on that.

I'll get the undercoating project completely finished, get it over to the body shop to fix the dent/s and then get it over to the mechanic to get the suspension put on. I thought about doing it myself, but I'm running out of time at this point... Teal season starts mid-September and we HAVE to be ready to go for the opener- pulling boats and all.

    We're going to be close.

Eastwood makes great products but with any rust treatment it might be best to at least grind down the flaky/heavier rust to bare metal, then sand it down with 50-100 grint before putting the first coat. Do that first before you degrease everything.

Haha. Yeah. That's the one! It was the only double cab I could find! Dogs, duck decoys, shotguns, waders, ect... Needed a double cab...

    Update...

Hopefully have the truck fixed tomorrow and back from the dealership, passing inspection so I can get it registered and on the road here.

Placed the order with Wheeler's Off Road for the OME suspension, Dakar's, and all that fun stuff.

Got the OEM parts list (lower control arms and various bolts and miscellaneous other pieces I wanted to keep OEM) that I'll be putting in tomorrow.

Hopefully have the stuff in from Eastwood soon and hopefully it will quit monsooning on us here so I can get the work done. I owe you guys some pics and will get that done as soon as I get it back from the dealer.
