Sorry for your loss. My dog means to world to my wife and I. She is almost 11 so I'm not sure how much longer she will be around. I know it will be a very hard day for me when she passes!

 

My wife just wrote this for/about Aspen.

To My Stinky Little Dog

No one would say you were a good dog.
You chewed up tissues,
Ate my shoes,
Didn’t listen,
Burrowed into my bed and left little white hairs,
Bit people and pets
But I loved you so much.

When I first met you
A 6 pound squirming bundle of jump
You peed on my floor every chance you got
You ate the cat food
And the cat litter
I can’t say that I actually liked you
But I grew to love you so much.

You were so happy all the time
Except when I washed you in the sink
Or trimmed your toe nails
Or flipped you upside down to brush your teeth
Should have done that more often
You had the worst breath ever
And the longest tongue
But I couldn’t help but to love you so much.

When I was sick, you would sleep with me for hours
When I cooked, you sat at my feet
Knowing eventually something would fall on the floor
You followed me everywhere
I tripped over you
You were my shadow
My stumbling block
My Aspen and I loved you so much.




You barked at imaginary monsters
You humped the cat
You lay in front of the fire so long you couldn’t walk
You stole Raphael’s chair
And his bones-which you hid behind the couch
You listened like you knew what I was saying
Actually, I think you did
But you usually didn’t do what I asked
And still I loved you so much.

You were so happy just to be alive
Content to be scratched
Or hugged
And you loved a good snuggle
I’ve never had a dog
I didn’t even want a dog
I was kind of annoyed when John brought you home
But you picked me
And made me love you so much.

Your personality was huge
There is a hole in our home
I keep expecting you to leap on me
Waiting for the jingle of your tags
Wanting to feel you burrow under my blanket
And snuggle up behind my legs
I miss you so much and I will never forget you

Yes, as you can see, this is the right place. I'm so sorry for you and your wifes loss. I felt as if I was right there while you were typing the first post. And no need for apoligies, like said above, let it out. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

It's the second day without her, no mad dash for the sliding door to go out, no check to see if there's food in the cat's dish, no bark at the horses waiting to be fed. I MISS HER!!

 

Nice, Aspen is buried next to our front porch in a little mini-garden. Come spring I will make a sort of headstone for her. Right now it's just a pile of dirt with about 2' of snow around it.

Can't believe the tears still flow at the drop of a hat. It seems every little thing is a reminder. Right now she should be wadded up in the covers on my wife's side of the bed waiting for a treat and something to do with us.

 

I am very sorry for your loss and the way Aspen went must be very hard. I wish you and your family all the best.

 

sorry for your loss, i know how you feel. i buried my German Shepard in december last year in the back yard where she spent most of her life. we couldn't just let the humane society take her. she died of old age in the garage where it was nice and warm next to the clothes dryer on her gigantic dog pillow in her sleep, she was 12 years old, her 13th birthday was 3 days ago.

she was huge so i treated her burial like a humans. i built her a 4'x5'x1' framed plywood and 2"x4" coffin with some waterproofing roofing material. inside i put her gigantic dog pillow and her on top of that. i also put in her tennis ball, her license tag and some of the family's things that she liked to take from us. i dug a hole 6'x4'x5'. i also lined the outside of the coffin with 3" of cement. everything was well worth it for her.

 

I'm sorry for your loss. I have 2x dogs, one is 5 and one is 2 and I already know the passing will be extremely hard one day. Especially since I have a baby boy on the way. As much of a pain in the arse they can be sometimes they are family.
