90% of any warranty will not cover wear items. They wear out as intended. Warranties should be for big ticket items, internal engine parts, fancy electronics that takes a computer engineer to fix at $175/hour, etc.

I don't man, but your story sure sounds like the old classic "bad cop good cop" routine.

Yes they will! My salesman didn’t try to sell me on it, but the finance guy did. I was dead set on not buying as well, but he kept lowering the price and extending the terms, so I took it, as it fit my situation.

It’s also wise to not tell sales upfront, because they’ll most likely be less negotiable on the vehicle sale, knowing they don’t have that fat margin sale ahead. Same goes for financing; some go in all Mr. Bigshit talking about how they can pay CASH, well financing is another profit generator for them, so why show your cards?

i declined the extended warranty offered that would cover all components for and extra 100k, i think it was around an extra 3k. I asks lots of questions, and when the finance guy couldn't answer my questions with definitive answers and I found out that the warranty was through a 3rd party company and not toyota I declined. Heres the scenario, something on my truck breaks that is on the list, i bring it in, a service claim get written up and sent to the warranty company and they approve or potentially decline the claim and it either gets fixed or it doesnt. So i told the finance guy basically its up the to warranty company whether or not they would honor the claim, and he basically said yea. so there was no 100% guarantee they would honor every claim even if a component was on the list in the brochure, and I say no thanks. I bank on the reliabilty of my toyota instead of their wishy washy warranty

7 years, 86k miles. Only issue has been a bad evaporator which cost me 1750. No extended warranty and I still feel I’m ahead.

Not arguing, again everyone’s situation is different, but that repair is the cost of the 100k warranty, not that we knew it was coming.

I was watching some old episodes of cops on YouTube featuring prostitution sting operations. The undercover officer was offering a handy in exchange for $15 or if pressed, she would drop her price to $10. All I can think about now…is what I could do with $6000 that seems like a better value than warranty-ing a relatively legendarily reliable vehicle.
Kudos to the men and women at the dealership who talk people into this. I salute you and you deserve that commission.

I would have taken the second deal and then canceled it the next day. Win-win.

Have you priced a Civic lately? Bought a new one for 18,500 in 2019 a month before I bought my Tacoma. I could get that on a trade and it has 50,000 miles on it......Those cars hold their value very well

Most car insurance companies offer gap insurance. Might be a better rate than what the dealer offered. I didn't buy the extended warranty when I bought my 2017 new.

It’s always a gamble whether or not you’ll end up putting in more money on repairs than the warranty. But time and time again, statistically a warranty will cost more. And the risk drops with a well maintained Toyota. I’ve had 4 new yota’s and the last 3 got to 300,000km without any major problems. Wheel bearings and shit like that, sure but they’ll argue that that’s not covered anyway. If you just read the 3rd gen forum you’ll get paranoid and be convinced you need one but there’s hundreds of thousands of Tacomas out there trucking along just fine.

NOW though! If you live north, get that puppy rustproofed every year with the Vaseline type stuff. It really works. That’s money well spent.

That warranty from Toyota for $1250 is 1000% a no brainer. 60k-120k seems to be the timeframe for timing cover leaks and the dreaded valvetrain issue. Both are big money to fix. I would pay $1250 all day long to have these items covered.

That’s incorrect. The warranty period is from the date the truck entered service regardless of when the warranty is bought. If you buy a 7yr extended warranty the day you buy the truck or the day before your three year factory warranty expires you will have the exact same period of coverage.

Pretty much all the mechanical stuff, electronics. This list is long. It's real close to the 3/36 bumper to bumper new car warranty
