Feel free to post up anything here. I like to explore and sometimes come across some pretty cool things I’ve never seen. Like this guy:

Anybody know what that thing is? Looks like a beetle of some sort to me. Similar to what we called Spruce Bugs in Maine. Maybe this is the desert variant of the same model? BIG nasty critter whatever he is. . .

Lol, nah, he lives on to hunt again. He was freakin huge. Wish I’d thought to put something near him for scale.

At Red Bull Rampage, I came across a kangaroo rat whilst camping. Don't see those everyday!

Oh, and there is a cool old train tunnel that you can drive through that we stumbled across while wandering around last spring. Turns out it is fairly well known and travelled around here, but we just happened upon it.

I saw this on my way home from work last week. I would'nt call this cool, but it was an unusual setup (exhaust)

Yeah, It's cool to see all the stuff around here relating to the past: mining, the pony express, etc. I have a few more that I'll post up later today when I have the time. Wild horses descending from when the Spanish conquistadors freed their steeds, old mine shafts, and lots of "interesting" stuff being out near Wendover and Dugway proving grounds: plenty of Apaches, some MH-47s, etc if I still have them.

Couple weeks ago I was up in Mogollon messing around and just exploring when I looked to my left through the screen of plants and trees and just happened to see this cut into the side of the mountain. Looks like something out of Lord of the Rings.

Didn’t go in - call me a pussy of you want... :goingcrazy:

I know there is at least one other old railroad tunnel above Washington park just east of the AZT and just below FR 300 near the battle of big dry wash historic marker.

Here in NM, old mine shafts are a dime a dozen. I could do a whole thread just on how many I’ve found out there ...

Random bathtub used to store water coming from a mountain spring at 8500 feet in a wilderness area. Would have been a massive undertaking dragging that thing up a 3000-4000 foot climb to get to this spot.

I'm not sure, but it is some kind of a beetle. I know, because it looks very similar to one I researched a while back. Wanted to make sure the damn things weren't a threat to drag me off and eat me.

    Beetles-longhorn-2.jpg

    Big ugly phuggers.

Not sure why it is, but we'd rent a cabin in the white mountains in AZ every year to do some fly fishing. Inevitably at least once during a trip I'd wake from a mid-day nap on the couch to find one of these bastards crawling on me. That will jolt you out of a mid-afternoon snooze.

Not sure of any of their habits, other than they seem to frequent sleeping humans during daylight hours.
