    Close to the one we have here.

    I don’t know if true or not but supposedly the Maine Spruce Bugs which are similar are reputed to give a vicious bite if provoked.

    I think I may have a winner, just to satisfy my curiosity, I fired up the google machine and came up with this. The Titan Beetle. As OP stated, no size reference, but from what I see, it doesn't matter, big, ugly, scary, etc......

    We call them pine bettles around here. Lot of them around during late May, early June, when the days are getting longer and warmer. Painful bite. They remove chunks of flesh. Kill them on sight.
