Honestly the idea of a ragtop truck appeals to me. Hell, I'd be driving a Defender 90 or a Scout ii as my daily if I could figure out how to do it without constantly hemorrhaging money to their upkeep.

The Wrangler I've been tempted by on occasion, until a test drive reminds me why I hate them. Nothing about it screams 40 thousand dollars. It looks like a fashion designer's idea of what utility is supposed to look like. Its a cubic ugly reminder of what once was; it just doesn't quite live up to the fun-per-dollar value that I would expect. Capable, somewhat fun, but not thrilling. The Gladiator? I expect it to be the same so it's a probable no for me.

An old VW Manx buggy on the other hand, try not to smile as one of those bastards gets you stuck in the sand over and over again. It's pure joy, who cares about getting passed by all the boring Jeeps on the trail. That's probably going to be my next one. Keep the taco for truck and sport utility stuff, buy a toy for fun.

Not going to trade my Taco for one, but when the lease on my Wife's JKU is up, I may buy one. Depends on how the resale is in a couple of years. Primary reasons for getting the JKU in the first place was being able to pull the top off and high resale.

That said, the numbers are impressive on it. Better payload and towing (not huge, but better) and a bigger interior.

My daughter worked at a Dodge/Jeep dealership. They had a staff meeting about the Jeep trucks. She said they start out in the $60K's.

Is that before or after they throw on a marked up lift kit with 35's on 3.21 axles with MT's?

Wonder if anyone is making those stupid ass angry grills for these yet.

Bought a Tacoma instead of a 2018 Wrangler because of problems with the new model, so no, not thinking about switching.

Just traded my 2016 Jeep KL in on my Tacoma. Had a 99 XJ before that one...it was a Jeep, since FIAT took them over they are now cookie cutter SUVs. Lovin' my Tacoma.

If you are afraid of messing up your Tacoma by offroading it, what makes you think a Jeep will mitigate that risk?

good point. but I would like to get into some wheeling at some point. but I plan to keep my Taco and upgrade a few things as I go along. no way in hell would I pay $60K for the Gladiator. and I am sure for the first 6 months or even longer after their debut they will be really expensive.

While a good friend owns a Jeep and has had no problems, I would rather not take the chance. I don't have his natural good luck. Fiat/Jeep/Chyrsler are at or near the bottom for reliability. RAM is not too bad though. Not great but not dismal either. The Gladiator is not even on my radar for my next vehicle.

I have a 2013 jk rubicon and absolutely no issues at all (other than battery)
I even bought the life time warentee since plan on keeping 20 years more.
So far waste of money. For any road trip definitely would take my 2016 or trd 4x4 tacoma, but like that small Jeep for trail running, local trips, plus it’s a convertible with removable doors. The gladiator is just too big.

IMO the Gladiator is cool to look at, but I feel like owning one isn't for me. Like all other Jeeps it has the aerodynamic properties of a couch. Not the best for on road travel which let's be honest is where 98% of these will live. Plus I can just see the swath of dudes named "Chet Sanders" and "Brett The Jett" driving these with the doors off with their flip flopped feet on the rail blasting Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried" on their way to lunch at some Pier/Beach based restaurant that honestly isn't that good but people go there because of the location and they have some special like bottomless mimosas on Wednesdays.
