Changed my oil in January, shortly after getting my truck. Yesterday after about 3,500 miles and 6 months I changed the oil again. Im happy to report that my 2.7L with 185K miles on it burned or leaked exactly zero oil - drained out the 5qts of Mobil 1 5w-30 that I put in back in January.

I find it amazing that this 17 year old motor with 185K miles and subject to my regular torment and abuse still works and sounds like a top (knock on wood).

Anyway, my hats are off to the guys that designed the 2.7L.

It's a good motor, but don't forget to check and adjust valve clearance. It's easy to burn an exhaust valve if neglected for too long. Especially beyond 150k

    Build thread coming soon!
It's funny- Toyota is the only manufacturer I know of that has something written right in the owner's manual about expecting the engine to use up to 1 qt per 1000 miles... but their stuff never does!
Saw it in my friend's 1994 twin turbo Supra manual, and it's in mine, written exactly the same...
Another friend of mine and I took a 1991 Previa AWD from here (Outside Edmonton, Ab) to SEMA 2008, drove the crap out of it, and it also never used a drop. Got it so hot climbing out of the valley that by the time we got to Cedar City, UT the trans was so hot it was stuck in high gear! It worked fine after it cooled off... Probably had 7000 miles on that oil change by the time we got back, and the oil was still a nice honey brown!
    Way to go, Toyota!:D

3rd oil change today at 189K miles. Happy to report that exactly 5 quarts drained out. Filled up with 5qts of Mobil 1 5w-30 and will look to see how thing look in the spring.
