Dropped off my son at school and when I got home I needed to go to the store and the vehicle would not start, my son complained of smelling raw fuel when he exited the vehicle. I'm guessing my fuel pump went south.

I started with the idea that if the key is placed in the "on" position and you listen inside the gas tank you should be able to hear a hum, Didn't hear anything. Then I went to my manual to see which if any of the fuses or relays were involved with the system, everything was normal. Replaced the original fuel filter (has 90K miles)and before hooking up the fuel line placed the switch to the "on" position, Nothing. Took off the bed to get access to the hoses and pump. Placed the switch in the "on" position one more time without success. Dropped the tank and replaced the pump and strainer. Vehicle started after 2nd try.
