I'm glad I'm not the only one who is questioning letting a dealership do the free services. I've owned 20+ vehicles and I've never had anyone else change my oil or do any basic maintenance besides tires. I'm approaching 9k miles and still trying to decide.

Why is it Karen can drop her Highlander off at the dealer for service and no fuss is made, but Kevin on the other hand well he’s a kunt. I mean never mind that just last week he high centered the bitch in a Circle K parking lot like some Swift driver while picking up three cases of Bud Light. In the all this excitement he laughed about it because chicks dig scars. It’s not until he gets home that he realizes his rocker panel severely fucked. Then we’re blessed with the obligatory why the f*ck are all these fab shops backed up for weeks post because sliders. I have an active off-road lifestyle damnit, so active that I don’t have time to change my own oil. Kevin will put more time into beard maintenance vs. tacoma maintenance because his jawline looks like his rocker panel, nonexistent.

At the end of the day it’s another truck like millions before it. It’s not some F or P car where Mario or Gretchen would put on the white gloves. Don't worry Josh that's nursing a bottle flu from hanging out with Jenny last night will still do a better job changing the oil. He's gotta make that flat rate because weddin season is here and Jenny wants to go to Cancun for a destination wedding.

OP check the condition of your wheels before you leave. Take pictures of them before the service. Something alot of people dont think about. I say this because myself and many others have had their wheels damaged from the clowns doing the rotation. Every lug hole on all four of my wheels where chowdered from the impact wrench. They denied doing the damage and sent me on my way. Sadly after two months of going back and forth with no resolve I had to have my lawyer write up small claims lawsuit summons to get them to replace my wheels. What a hassle!! My advice....do what you can yourself and avoid the dealerships altogether.

Sometimes free is not a good price

I thought about this too. I actually told them I do NOT want my tires rotated and did them myself in advanced and didn’t tell them where my lug key was. Hoping they didn’t even pull the wheels off but I definitely will be inspecting them carefully. I brought the vehicle in flawless, recently detailed and clean. Should be easy to spot any issues.

my main concern is stripped out oil pan drain bolt. Over tightened oil filter. stripped out skid plate bolts. And Under/over filled oil level.

I did my 10k and 20k service and that was it. My tundra didn’t goto the dealer.

my oil canister was severely over torqued. When I did the 30k service myself. Since then, I’ve done everything myself.

They do a floor mat inspection and that alone is totally worthwhile. Who would pass that up!!??

My truck had it's first 5k mile service yesterday. I feel your anxiety. No problems on the tire rotation luckily, was hoping they would have a fix for my vibrating hood flutter. 'Nope never heard of that one, that's new, we will check the TSBs'.

So just picked her up. And she survived! Oil looks new on the dip stick and at the correct level. No oil spills or Leaks. I can see where they whiped up the bottom of “skid” plate aka pie tin plate that will be replaced soon. Skid plate bolts aren’t stripped. Tires weren’t rotated per my request. floor mats look to be thoroughly inspected. and wiper fluid filled.

I Re set my air pressure to my liking as they set all tires to 35 psi.

Only issue was the oil filter cap. It took the largest breaker bar I had coupled with an end wrench extended for leverage to break it loose. I re torqued it to my liking and checked for leaks so far so good but will keep an eye on it. It says right on it 25nm which is about 19ft lbs. guess the techs don’t know how to read.

other than that I’d say I lucked out at Concord Toyota in CA.

The dealer told me they were gonna charge me $125 in labor to remove my skid plate (arb- 6 bolts) in order to get my “free” oil changes.
I went to the dealership across town and there was no issue.

Also interesting enough there was only 2 Tacomas on the lot. My wife asked the salesman where they all are and he stated they halted production on them for 6 weeks but should have some soon.

I don't take my vehicles into the dealership unless there's no other solution.

As far as "free" oil changes, the problem is that often things that are supposed to be "free", end up being anything but after your time, effort and anxieties experienced.
You wouldn't believe what "free oil changes" have ended up costing some C7 Corvette owners with dry-sump engines.

I only have 1500 miles on my Tacoma but you guy/gals are causing me some anxiety about taking it to the dealership for anything. And I ain't no youngster and been around the block (Maybe too many times!).
