Well, I finally finished painting my stock rims (pics to follow soon). I pulled them off, sanded them with my drill using an attachment, washed them crap out of them and then started with the real work. I used Rustoleum Auto Primer, wheel coating (gloss black, and wheel clear coat. I figured I would stick with one type.

After washing and sanding: 1- I taped off the tire around the bead. 2- I used the primer to paint the inside of the rim first. 3- I used adhesion promoter (2 coats). 4- I put a light coat of primer (let dry) and then put on 2 more consecutively heavier coats (let dry). 5- I put on a light coats of wheel coloring then 2 more coats, each slightly heavier than the last (let dry). 6- I put on 1 light coat of clear coat (let dry) then put on 3 more consecutively heavier coats, allowing drying between each.

It looks really nice, especially since I left the center of my wheel caps silver and the lug nuts got a coat of silver too.

For you guys who already did this...how do you go about cleaning your tires now? How long does a painting usually last?

Here are the pics. Oh, and I tried to get those damned SS emblems off. Holy crap! I don't know what kind of adhesive was used but they won't budge.

Looks Good! I do like the look of black on silver. You just need to get some black lug nuts to finish the look

Looks great. Try to heat up the SS emblem with a heat gun or hair dryer. Then use some fishing line or something similar... (I used a zip tie believe it or not) and try to run it behind the emblem to pull it off... might be worth a shot.

Looks nice- I like the silver accents man. I clean my tires/rims with regular maguires wheel cleaner. Just make sure you put it on, scrub, and then rinse cause it can strip paint if it sets too long.

My wheels need to be re-done but that's cause I've done a significant amount of wheeling with them in Florida mud and trails. My whole truck has pinstripes and trail badges. I'll probably repaint when I install my lift (sometime in the next month)
