do you have any weapon at all?
i would suggest something like this. we have them in all our stores and you can remotely watch your house
    http://www.amazon.com/Netrome-Tetragon-4-Channel-Security-Monitor/dp/B001IF5TOI

another thing to do is leave on a light or the tv and make sure you switch the lights on in a different room every other day.

or tell everyone your leaving for a week and put a sign in your yard your leaving..... wait with shot gun in house.

True indeed. But the app provides push notification/alerting to your phone when motion is detected. Also allows you to record when motion is detected.

I use iCamSource, it's awesome. I think they have a Windows flavor too.

What's nice is, we have 4 macs and I can view all four cams at one time on my iPhone with iCamSource.

But the cheapest solution would indeed be two Skype accounts.

OP, i wouldn't worry too much about having to defend your home

It's pretty obvious they are doing their homework, and a gun/knife/etc aint gonna help if you arent home

I'd focus more on doing things to make the house more secure while away, you can change the type of deadbolts, put better locks on your windows, add longer screws to your door frames etc

    Add lights for nighttime

well get a big can of pepper spray or 2 and keep em handy. get the ones that spray not the foam or fog. CA has the gay 10 day waiting period for firearms, so youll need a stopgap.

    and insurance! have it! seriously

Solid point. They definitly wouldnt be doing all of this planning if they didnt mind confronting us during a break in. I go out of town to visit my sister alot too and they probably know I am not home on weekends alot, so probably will not be doing that for a while. I was planning on going this weekend but cancelling it.

I honestly have not looked at my insurance policy in a while to see what is covered but am going to as soon as possible and make adjustments as needed.

Stick on hood scoop from Autozone.
Ask the neighbors to keep an out for vehicles parked in front of your house, and make sure they get license plate numbers.

That sucks, but I know what you are going through. A couple years back, had a 'sales rep' selling something come by trying to pitch me something. Kinda noticed they started looking past me at what was inside, but didn't think much of it then. Sure enough, 2 weeks later, come home to my house turned upside down. Bastages. It is the worst feeling knowing somebody was in your house. I don't care about me so much, but my wife is my world, and my bikes, guitars, home theater, and tons of other crap useful to pawn.

Like mentioned, get an alarm, and post that you have one (a sign for the front yard and stickers on the windows). Yea they may think you have something valuable, but chances are they will not hit your house if they understand most alarm companies will route a triggered alarm to the PD. Also, use a wireless alarm so they will not be able to cut your feeds. I use Protect America as an fyi.

Good luck. Hope it all works out.

Most criminals also know that there is quite a delay in the alarm system alerting the police, and response time following

fun stuff coming soon! New battery, radiator and CV joints and axles. Added some Rancho RS5000 shocks.
actually i kinda like that idea, maybe not a big sign in the yard, but a small one in the window or on the door so next time they get close they have a nice note and may think twice.

What would I do? Well I always let my German shepherd run around the house. He will test someone apart if he doesn't like them. Put extra locks on doors and invest in window bars. Try to get the license plate. Buy a gaurd dog to run around the gated yard. Stake out and see of they show up. If they do, get their plate, confront them with your gun, best them with a baseball bat etc. you have an advantage. You know they're up to something. They do not know that you know.

May also want to invest in a gun.
