will have Apple car play. Still waiting to hear about additional goodies for 2020. Maybe I will consider trading in my 2017 for a 2020. Question for those with 2018 and 2019 have they corrected the rear differential problem? When the 2016 came out there were tons of problems with this truck most seem to be minor and I want to get a feel for how far has Toyota come along in addressing these problems

    Source on the carplay?
My 2018 does not have any diff howl.
The 3rd brake light issue was corrected in 2017, and there have been some transmission updates along the way.

Apple people are the definition of fan boys.

I read an article that quoted a Toyota rep saying they held off on car play and Android auto because of privacy issues. Also listed the concerns, made me respect Toyota holding back.

I’d trade my 2017 if the 2020 comes with a large size cup holder

Trading up from a 16/17 makes more sense as you get TSS in addition to the HU upgrade (if you believe its coming -which I do not) no offense to 17 owners, just saying that makes more sense than upgrading from a 18 or 19 if its true

I just heard you can buy better aftermarket head unit that actually produce good sound. I’m not trading in my truck.

Toyota will wait until CarPlay is out-of-date, then make it standard on all models.

Can't the existing head unit just be flashed or is this a hardware feature too?

I don't understand all the hype and whine about Apple car play

The one thing I don’t like about Apple car play and the Android stuff is they you have to have your phone connected with a cable to the USB port. I’ve grown to really like the Qi wireless charging and Bluetooth combo. Now if they get these working wireless, I could be interested.

Also, will it be a simple software update or will you need a new head unit? Or will you have to buy an entire new truck to get it? I’m not sure I’d trade my truck just for car play. I’ve spent a lot of time and $ making everything else just the way I want it. I’d likely just buy a new head unit, either the Toyota version or after market and be many $’s and mods ahead.

They have had wireless for a couple years. Alpine made the first wireless apple CarPlay unit and now a few others do.

I might consider swapping head units before trading, may be less of a financial hit.

I think it will eventually show up. It’s already in a few models.
