    gas companies?

do you mean oil companies?...or those who own/operate the fueling stations?...and lets not forget the big winners, the state & fed government who make big bank on fuel taxes. (most of which you'll pay on gas or diesel)

reguardless...nice stable of trucks you have. That one with the custom removeable top is kinda cool...very "California"

The OP says "everybody wants them." I haven't seen this proof or evidence. If you want to use terribly skewed facts from a biased small segment of Tacoma owners well then fine. I'll use that same sample size to say 362 people in that poll voted for some sort of diesel option out of over 50,000 registered members on TW. Toyota has sold over 1.5 million Tacomas in the last decade. Most of those people aren't on TW, and aren't enthusiasts modding their trucks, etc. It's kind of silly looking at sales of diesel vehicles in the US compared to their gas counterparts to think the majority of those people would have bought a diesel if it was available.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to them offering one but don't think that of the entire market most people are clamoring for a diesel. Especially since there's not much reward for the normal owner. 20 percent fuel economy is largely negated by the premium you'd pay. It's not like a diesel car where it's less of a premium and you can get 50mpg. Plus, not completely comparable put a diesel Hilux has lower towing than a gas Tacoma. So you're not even gaining capability, either.

Jtav, my only point is that it's silly for you to say they are in the minority with no proof, and then call me out for linking a poll. Whether or not the poll is accurate, I at least offered some sort of support to my argument

I heard Dodge makes a diesel. How about selling one of your gas guzzlers and getting a Dodge?

I loved my pretty Dodge Ram.

I also provided proof, your same data sample. It clearly shows that only a few hundred people here care enough about a diesel to vote for one.

This is obviously an exercise in futility. If you want to think that more people will buy a diesel Tacoma than wouldn't buy one, be my guest. I've seen both with market research at work and on other automotive forums that when something people can't have becomes available, suddenly people aren't interested in ponying up their money. If non heavy duty diesel trucks were overwhelmingly desired, why do we not have a diesel 1/2 ton truck? Why has no one rushed at bringing a mid size or compact diesel to market here (hell Ford and Ram aren't even interested in selling ANY truck in the segment right now). I'd have an extremely difficult time buying that if a diesel Tacoma came out tomorrow that more than half the people on TW, let alone in the general Tacoma buying population would actually buy one.

Personally, I want a natural gas powered Taco.

    how is my post political?

just the mention of taxes makes it political? taxes are a big part of the cost...correct? the OP mentioned he was concerned with the cost of fuel...right?

I placed no blame on a particular politician...or political party...or particular policy... :notsure:

maybe it was it the "California" comment that included a compliment?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Half a percent of a population is hardly a good sample...none-the-less

Depend on trim probably. But you'd have to expect a several thousand premium. HD full size trucks it's usually a $7k option so it would be less than that.
