I want to replace my speakers too and don't know what to choose.
There are not very expensive JBL speakers in local store, but they are 2 Ohms. Will they work well with my stock HU?

I have the Polk audio DXI's they are not very expensive and have a very good sound. I listened to much more expensive speakers and was surprised at how I liked the sound of the DXI seperates better. Everybody has there own taste, get what you like.

They are polk audio DXI 650s for the rear and DXI6500 components for the front. all they require were mounting adapters. I ordered a set from "Mr Marv" he is a member on here and does a tremendous job, well worth the money for his brackets.

So far I have the speakers and the wire adapters for the woofers. Are the wiring adapters same for tweeters?

OP.... do what is best for you and your budget. there will be an "improvement" no matter what you do. The level of improvement depends on how far you want to go. You can do it in stages rather than buying everything at once. Yes there will be an improvement just installing the speakers. Yes there will be a greater improvement installing a head unit and speakers, and so on. Here are a few pictures of the stock speakers compared to Polk Audio DXI's

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

As you can see a significant difference. For curiosities sake I did hook them up to the stock head unit before I replaced it. They did "work", but were under driven for sure and I really had to turn the volume up to get any real sound out of them. Another thing to keep in mind is an underpowered speaker will blow out sooner, essentially ruining your investment in speakers. If you are just going to buy speakers you really need to be wary of the power requirements. low wattage requirements do not necessarily equal good quality sound and you may end up with speakers that are marginally better than what you have in there now. Ensure they have a high efficiency rating (Polk Audio DXI 650 are 92DB) this will help with lower wattage. bottom line do what is best for you just make sure you get what is going to best suit your needs.

yah I got the same speakers you have. So I need 4 speaker wiring adapters right 2 for tweeters and 2 for the woofers to avoid cutting factor wiring.

ok just made my speakers adapters getting ready to put em in. I have the wire adaptersx2 the speakers (polk dxi6501) the bolts I got from home depot.

used 3/4 MDF and sealed it with krylon multiple coats. For the tweeter I used 1/4 MDF and sanded it down a bit below 1/4 so I could just use the factory bolts.

Nice work. I have a crossover in my rear doors. I used some industrial Velcro and attached it to one of the foam blocks on the inner door panel.

For my fronts MM651's, I have them also fixed with Velcro behind the kick panels on the sides of the floorboard using the supplied wire extenders, (but I had run new speaker wire to all of mine)

I replaced my HU first, but just because I wanted the functionality the HU gave (bluetooth, AUX port, USB port, etc.) And it's slightly increased my sound. The problem is now I have too much power from my HU and I've got to be careful not to blow my stock napkins... errr... speakers. I plan on upgrading those next, but I'm waiting until I have all the components (speakers, adapters, shok mat, MLV) before I tear into my doors and walls.

If you're just wanting better sound, get better speakers. If you're wanting a little MORE sound/functionality, get the HU. If you're wanting MORE BETTER sound, you have to replace both, and add an amp for good measure.

From what I've told I don't need to install the crossovers in front since I'm using the factory 2014 head unit.

"Yes. I think you'll find the tweeter wires are actually connected in crossover phase on the stock speakers. To verify this, the color on the + main speaker will be the same as the - tweeter speaker. Just don't change the speaker +/- only the tweeter. I know it sounds weird but it works. You can also just cut your tweeter wires and connect via heat shrink and solder. Pink will be + on the speaker and - on the tweeter. Purple is - on speaker and + on tweeter. The speakers are the correct polarity and tweeters in crossover."

here is what I'll be doing I guess

the only issue with going in stages is that if I you get a speaker that will perform well when matched to the stock head unit, they wont be able to handle the power of an amp later.

Speakers made to run at 100 rms will not sound great at 25 rms.

Id wait until you can do more at once so you don't have to rebuy speakers again to match the amp your going to want in a few months anyway.

If you don't think you'll ever do an amp, maybe just replace the headunit, disregard this post :)

I have posted this before but the JBL GTO series speakers are super efficient and sound great with the stock Entune premium HU. I did the JBL speaker swap and used the factory speaker mounts. Yes I gutted the super cheap factory speakers by cutting them out and then screwed in my JBL's right into the factory mounts. Worked great. I have just over a $100 into my sound system and it sounds really good for the average listener.
