I have been told not to keep the RPM's constant during the early stages of an engine. I don't know the exact physics of it, but I was told by both Toyota and Mastercraft (for a boat). Two pretty reputable company's.

Nice truck, but yer so skrewed... Your disposable cash will be a thing of the past. Worse than getting married, but then you'll be able to still ride the truck for many years later.

The reason is for the rings to seat properly to eliminate oil usage prematurely. Not as important these days as 20 years ago where engines last 2 to 3 times longer, but does still apply to help get to that 3x number.

After a full day of driving, here are some of my initial observations. First, I'm not sure if I like the hood scoop or not. It looks good on the outside, but it does reduce visibility when you're driving. I also don't like the driver's side grab handle sticking out, it also impedes my field of vision, although it's minimal. Haven't really played with the stereo that much, although I have noticed that the steering wheel controls are kind of annoying in that you have to hold the volume button down forever it seems like before there is a noticable decibel difference. I'd like to see the stereo go from about 0-30 in terms of adjustments, I stopped going up at 42 and it really wasn't that loud. Also, there's no Mute button on the steering wheel. Seems silly not to have that.

What I like most so far: sport seats fit my body perfectly, lumbar support feels great, and they look cool too. Storage compartments are plentiful and I've finally got an armrest again! Took at look under the hood and was delighted to see that a car manufacturer finally put the oil filter in an easy to reach place and they even put a little catch or funnel around it with a nipple on the bottom so you don't have to make a mess.

All in all, I love it, and while I may be a little critical of some of the small things, I'm still very pleased with the truck as a whole.

Now I have a couple of questions, and maybe they'd be better answered by reading the manual, but hey why not just ask you guys....Are there greasable fittings in the suspension/chassis or are they sealed? Shifting into 4x4 while driving...is that ok? do you need to let off on the gas before doing so? the truck has Dunlop AT20 tires, anybody else have an opinion on these?

Thanks that's interesting...I wonder how that applies to diesel motors like power units and tractors. We have thirty five JD 100+ HP power units and 5 JD tractors that are run on a throttle cable so the rpm is always constant to maintain proper PTO output. So if it is a matter of seating the rings properly you would think this would affect a diesel motor as well. This would be impossible to do with the diesel engines I mentioned...Something to ask about though....

anyone dislike the placement of the rearview mirror? I almost feel as if its too low on the windshield and obstructs my field of view.

Welcome to TW fellow Virginian. Congrats in getting a Tacoma.

Sooner or later you will find out there are tons of mods you can do on that truck. Enjoy it, I love mine, its a 2010 DC TRD Off-road by the way.

    Welcome from NY.
    Nice truck, enjoy!

Books says break in 500 miles. Don't tow, don't stop fast, don't stay at one speed. I went real soft on mine except for a few hard stops; mpg improved around 10,000.

    4x4,
Should be used on soft or slippery surface; avoid sharp turns if just on wet paved road (4LO should probably only be used off the pavement). Sharp turns on paved road in 4x4 causes some parts to wear.

4x2 to 4HI, can switch in or out up to 60 mph (I never found myself going over 60 and deciding in need 4x4). I generally am going much slower when I change.

4HI to 4LO, must be stopped and in neutral, clutch in (I think on the manual tran you can be going 2 or 3 mph but I feel safer stopping), push switch in before turning. Same goes for 4LO to 4HI.

There is an up/down adjustment at the window. The obvious ball adjustment is at the mirror.

ive had my mgm for about a month now, congratulations!
as far as the break in goes, it is worn in a little at the factory.. the manual says a few things about what not to do below 500 miles and 1000miles. including heavy throttle, towing, constant speed... ive broken in my fair share of motors.. be easy for that first few hundred but use all those rpms if that makes sense.

also.. im having the amplifier replaced in my truck because like you.. my stereo can be way up there and it still doesnt feel very loud. i mean.. its at a reasonable level.. but when it says max.. it should be speaker popping loud as all the other yoders ive owned.

i dont quite care for the steering wheel buttons either.. i never use them. just not accustomed to having them i suppose.. and im always trying to look around that rearview mirror.. but im a little taller than most.

its a great truck though, enjoy!
