I bought the Tacoma because I've owned 3 Toyotas and they've all been great. My husband and I recently purchased 15 1/2 acres of land with lots of different types of terrain. So, now I get to learn how to off-road.

I am thrilled with how my new (to me) Tacoma drives, but I just learned from my mechanic that the frame is rotted.

So, now I'm looking for a different--likely newer model year--that has no major issues.

I'll be perusing this site to learn what other Taco drivers love about their Taco. :)

    Hi! Thanks for the welcome!

It's an '06 Base, extended cab. I want automatic...and I'm thinking maybe I should just buy the very newest I can afford. I perused a link here on TW regarding frame issues in Tacomas. YIKES! I wonder if Toyota has yet to deal with these issues successfully...? And, of course, I'm pretty sure that MY current frame issue is a result of the monster that eats cars: Rust. But still....

Our property is in Dryden, a few miles east of Ithaca, New York. The Finger Lakes region of New York is STUNNING! Waterfalls, rolling hills of farmland, big skies, perfect winters, idyllic summers, fabulous autumns, and glorious springs! I was grew up in Ottawa, Canada, but my soul lives in Dryden! On our property we have 4 white pine groves, a dried pond, a field that looks west over 80 acres of our neighbor's field--perfect sunset viewing. We have a small creek that runs into a large creek that is ideal for kayaking...it's all around dreamy!

A little of this and a little of that.
    Welcome to TW!

I grew up in Geneva, NY, on Seneca Lake. I know right where Dryden is. I’m biased, but I agree with you about the Finger Lakes Region being “STUNNING”. Your property sounds amazing, congrats on the purchase.

FWIW, check around with some local repair shops for possible frame repairs. My Dad has a low mileage ‘04 Tacoma and the frame had to be repaired prior to passing NYS Inspection last year.

    Good luck!

Ah ha! How ‘bout that! You grew up in the area. It has captured my heart. I can’t imagine why anyone would leave! What place on earth have you found you like better?

Thank you for the frame suggestion. I have my lawyer working on getting the truck back to the snake oil salesman I bought it from. In the meantime, I’m obsessed with finding another access cab Taco in the $20-25K range so, I will look up how to place an ISO listing for my areas: Ithaca and Kingston NY.

Thanks again for the welcome. Great to “meet” someone who knows my zone.
