Is that for the fuel tank pump or the high pressure pump?

First I’ve heard of this one. What determines if a certain truck is affected?

I think VIN numbers from production date. I did my '18 Taco fuel pump recall. Only a few hours at the dealership.

I had a fuel pump recall also, but not the high pressure pump. On the plus side, I’m not smelling gas in the engine bay, so far, so good.

Mine's a 17 . I wonder if they are just getting around to my year, as a precaution? It seemed, from what I read here, the original TSB or whatever was focused on 18 and newer vehicles.

What is the wording on that letter. I got a letter a year ago that covers all d4s toyotas. Does it say customer support program?

I received the letter yesterday as well. I'm not smelling any gasoline odors when I pop the hood, so all seems to be well at this time. I did have the original fuel pump replaced 2 or 3 years ago under a recall, but I believe this is a separate issue.

It is. Low pressure pump in the tank is replaced. This one for fuel smell is high pressure pump on the motor.

I received a letter for my 20 a couple weeks ago. Haven't noticed anything so far, was there anything else to it or just gasoline odor alone?

I finally got the letter for the high pressure fuel pump. No fuel smell on mine, and didn't notice any signs of leaks when I changed the plugs a few days ago. Hopefully this isn't like a ticking time bomb situation...

I had the low pressure fuel pump replaced on my 2019 TRD Off Road per a Safety Recall in 2021. This truck often hesitated on acceleration from the start but the dealer said is was just cause I was used to the 3L engine in my 2007. It definitely felt more responsive after the recall - for a while.

I also got the Service Alert on a potential high pressure fuel pump seepage with symptoms of hard starting, fuel oder in the cab, and possibly warning lights including check engine staying on after start with rough idling. I started to experience all those symptoms including check engine light on and rough idling in late Nov 2024. I called the dealer where I bought the truck that also did the low pressure pump recall fix and they told me to call Toyota Roadside Assistance since I was smelling fuel. TRA arranged to have the truck towed to the dealer and mentioned that the tow company might want the fire department to check out the scene before they tow it - for real. The tow truck driver threw it up on a flat bed and said not to worry.

The dealer got back to me in a couple of days and said it was going to take a couple of days to get the parts and would have it back in a week. I asked them what parts and they replied the fuel pump. I ask low pressure or high pressure and the person on the phone said "not sure - low pressure I think". I got a call a couple of days later saying it was done - no charge since it was a recall. When I picked it up the paperwork said they replaced the low pressure pump. The truck started right up so I left.

Three weeks later exact same symptoms - fuel odor, hard starting and then finally check engine light and other lights staying on after starting to a really rough idle. I called the dealer and drove it in myself. They said all the previous work was fine and they couldn't explain the problem and they needed more time. A few more days went by and they said they needed to do an $1,100 compression leak down test because they had eliminated all other hard starting issues. The truck has 44K and I have all the required maintenance receipts from a licensed mechanic. They said it was highly unusual and if there was a compression isssue they could advoacte for help paying for an engine rebuild since the truck is low mileage and just a few months passed the 60 month powertrain warranty. Guess what - no issues with the compression found by the $1,100 test.

After another week of diagnostic testing they now say the fuel injector seals are leaking that will cost over $4K to replace. No offer to advocate for help from Toyota this time plus the $1,100 compression test is also on the work order. The service manger says there is no way multiple fuel pump issues could impact the injector seals, but I disagree. Low or high fuel pressure conditions can cause extra stain on the injectors. Not saying that is absolutely the cause but they shouldn't say it absolutely isn't .

    I'm furious with these people.

Called Toyota Brand Management last week. They created a case and forwarded to the dealer. Calling them back tomorrow to see what else they might be able to do.
