You're totally correct. Comparing prices without details is meaningless.. Here are the details of my policy for those interested.

It's through Mercury insurance. Deductible is $500. It's Max coverage. $300k liability coverage. Uninsured motorist with deductible waiver. Other bells and whistles I don't remember off the top of my head. Its a premium policy. We got the most coverage we could to reduce the risk of being sued for our assets.

I have my home owners insurance through Mercury as well so I get a slight discount.

Ive had my policy with them for many years. I'm 47. Its been about 17 years since with my wife or I have had an accident or tickets.

Live in Hawaii, your fault state....just got my 17 TRDOR DC and ins went up $33/6mos now it's $267/6mos. Had a 03 F150 with terminal cancer, had a lot of rain and shorted ecu and everything under dash! Did some wire jumping etc.... got it started and drove straight to Stealership and traded it in.
I have full coverage and got a $Mil umbrella policy with homeowners, hurricane etc....Statefarm ins. pretty good over here, less than every other co.

    Rule of thumb guys--

Which I call the Now & Later TheoryNow___Later.jpg

As you get older in years the vehicle insurance will go down & your health insurance will go up.

And only in NH is driving a privilege and insurance is OPTIONAL.

I pay $515 every 6 months through State Farm for $250k/$500k coverage for liability, $100k/$300k coverage for uninsured motorist, and $100k property damage. I also pay for a $1 million umbrella policy. My comprehensive deductible is $50 and my collision deductible is $1,000.

I used to have USAA until 2.5 years ago but they wanted way more for car insurance and home insurance than State Farm. I have two other vehicles I insure too.

Expect about 3% more if your state legalizes pot.

We were paying right at $750/month with State Farm.
    Yes, I said per month.
That's for 3 vehicles and 3 drivers. We all have clean driving records. I don't know the details on the policy.
My wife just switched us to Progressive and it's now almost $200 less per month.
This is Louisiana. If we aren't the highes in the nation, we're pretty close.
My wife and I have been talking about moving. The money saved in insurance would be nice, depending on where we'd move.

I use Liberty Mutual for all my insurance (home, auto, life... we get a break when bundling and due to my wife's work), and I just completed a program I had no idea existed until a new agent was assigned to me and saw I was paying way too much. It's called Righttrack and basically you hook a device to your truck computer for 90 days and it monitors your driving, and if you don't have too many "incidents" (fast accelerations or fast breakings... driving bewteen midnight and 4 am), you can get a discount off your vehicle. I got 17% off, my wife got 15% off.

Just a suggestion that maybe other insurance carriers might have similar programs. Of course, you have to be ok with some level of intrusion, which wasn't a problem for me.

Edit: I'm in NH, no idea if this is program is offered nationwide.

My wife and I pay $88 a month for full coverage ($500 deductibles) here in Indiana with Geico. We’re both almost 30. She has a 2016 Explorer and my 17 Tacoma. No accidents or tickets on our records.

Keep in mind that many insurance companies also have started using your credit report to determine rates,(which I thin is not really fair) so basically the better your credit rating the lower your rates will be and I actually experienced this. I had made a vandalism claim on my truck for 1500.00 and 6 months later my rates went down 20 bucks a month and not up which was strange, but I had also paid off some debts and my credit rating went up quite a bit. I when I inquired about it, they told me that my credit rating is why the rates dropped. I had great credit to begin with but the rates dropped because it got better. Not all underwriters use credit, but more are.

"Credit Scoring" is regulated by state; it is a very good predictor of who will file a claim and who will not.

That's correct. How many miles you drive per year and the crime rate in your neighborhood also is factored into the price. I blessed to have zero commute, I work from home most days, and in live in a very good neighborhood.

I thought it was based on zip code. Risk can vary greatly within a state, but zip code narrows things down quite a bit.

Not just a Florida thing. Sucks to have to need insurance for the other guy not having insurance, but I buy it so I don't end up SOL when some uninsured tweaker or immigrant causes an accident.

Dashcam FTW. It may not clear you completely, but it should help.
