I'm happy I found you guys...can't wait to learn from the pros on here. Complete newbie. Just got rear-end by a brand new Tundra...need some paint job and xxxx. Crap!!!

Do you know where I can buy those clear body tape...on our Taco...the one usually covering the lower parts of the car...from rock and debris. I want to use more of it underneath and to protect some paint job.

    TBH.

Welcome to the site. The bubbly looking stuff looks like it is under the clearcoat. I believe that 3M makes some stuff that is intended for hoods.

How'd the Taco hold up in the wreck? Any chance you have pics of it and the Tundra? I'm really curious to see the damage done on both vehicles

I will put up the pictures soon. The rear bumper needs to be replace. I am still wondering what to do with a little ding to the paint job. The cost ranges from $11xx to $30xx to fix the darn thing.

The Tundra suffers more damage to the front bumper and the front grill, so I bet his cost is more.

I'll probably take it easy on that guy and ask for $1,500.00 and live with a little paint damage which I am planning to apply the tape to protect further damage.

You probably had the same issue I had with my rearender accident where the bumper was pushed into the rear bedside and messed up the paint. Mine was hit by a drunk driving illegal alien in a Dakota pretty hard but I just needed a new bumper, some minor tailgate dent repairs, and paint work. Total was like $1100.

Can you elaborate on the paint work?

A dealer repair shop wants to paint the whole right side over and take off my SnugLid F2 and everything. I am not sure if I want to go through the whole thing...asking for trouble. That total was $2034 something.

    Without repainting ... $1100 something.

    Pictures coming.

I'd take the cash and get going on the mods. A new, stout rear bumper might be a good place to start. :)

It could have been worse. It could have been a Ridgeline.

Just keep in mind that if you trade in your truck now the stealership will know that you had an accident and give you less money, as will anyone that gets a carfax report. We all know they can fix it to look like new, but an accident affects more than just looks. I would go for more money because of the loss of value in the end and don't sign any paperwork until you get your figure. It might take a year but the insurance companies will pony up the few extra hundo because of this...good luck

I was rear-ended also. The passenger-side bumper pushed into the rear quarter panel on the bed. The shop (toyota certified w/ very good rep) repainted the affected area but had to clear-coat the entire side of the bed and replace the TRD sticker as well as replace the plastic piece at the front-bottom side of the bed and that clear stick-on covering they use.

My bumper had a rip in it at the bottom from hitting the hitch and they had to replace the entire bumper (body colored bumper), one bumper bracket, the plastic step rail on the top and re-adjust my tailgate. Can't remember the cost....all paid for by the other person.
