Kinda looks like the gasket or cap tape was either not installed or not seated correctly , the scratches would be a minor thing to me but the window leaks are bad news

The bolts look the same as mine , I don't think they are an issue

Man that sucks. If they are a good and reputable company, they should definitely take care of you. I have been wanting to get a cap for my 3rd gen, but stories like this are common and I don't know if I'd like to spend $3k+ when I could go with a canvas top...I Hope all will be corrected

That is 100% unsat. Period. No leak. Nothing loose. No scratches. Anything less and you are getting screwed. And before I get jumped, this is not a 3rd gen issue. This is a customer satisfaction issue and since I run a cap then I know what the expectation should be.

Thing should be weatherproof. I never had that problem even in torrential thunderstorms

Your cap is siliconed to your truck ? Did they use a camper tape / cap gasket too ?

I was just wondering if they used silicone instead of camper tape , sounds like they used both

Hell no. Silicone SHOULD not be needed to seal a cap. Sounds like you got a lemon and some dill weeds to damage and improperly install your cap.

I have had lots of caps on trucks over the years. The use of silicone caulk is not the way you seal a cap. It should be done with the correct rubber gaskets, Tacomas are tough to seal, due to the height diff. from the side rails, to the front rail, 5/8" diff. Sometimes this is done with the shape of the cap, sometimes it is done with a thicker gasket. there is a flexable putty that is used in this trasition point. The silicone will get hard, the truck will flex, the leak will come back. Sometimes silicone is used to help seal a window gasket, but you should not see the caulk. I paid $3000. for my cap, it does not leak, nor should it. I do have some water that gets in at the tailgate, but that has been stopped with a good tailgate gasket. That being said, car washs will let some water in, one bad spot is the bed rail cap. I will remove the cap, remove the bedrail cap, and put a bead of silicone between the under side of the bed rail cap, and the metal bed, then reinstall. Hope you get your issues fixed, good luck.

I get the frustration, but if I paid 4,400 for it, I'd be going back as many times needed for them to get it right. If you go back see if there is someone else that can remove the silicon and do the waterproofing

You can get it on Amazon, just search"tailgate seal", its like $25.The stuff i used is made byMagic Mounts, www.magicmounts.com. When you do it make sure you do the bottom first, then the sides. and make sure its dry and clean. Use a 2" test peice to locate just where you want to place it, it should make the tailgate feel like it is binding somewhat. This is the gasket compressing, it will get memeory and close easier with time. Its just like a car door, its going to need some force to close. If and when you take the cap off , use 2 people to lift it off and place on sturdy sawhorses, at this time you can see if they put the correct gasket under the cap. This should be a double bulb seal stuck to the bottom of the cap, good luck, pm me if you have any more questions.

Based on what this dealer did.....if possible, I'd work with Leer to find a new one.

I know this adds nothing to the discussion, but sometimes I wonder why the Toyota 4Runner was not considered if someone wants a dry bed.

Cost and more space. Plus it is nice not to here or smell the stuff that is in the back.

If that is between the cab and cap , it looks like the cap may be too far towards the rear
