So, 9:30pm, winding down, wife is in bed. I'm on the computer in the living room when I see a 6' shadow come up to the front door, turn the door latch and throw his weight against the door.

I couldn't process it for a split-second. My mind was thinking "who is at the front door?" Then in the other half of that second I was up yelling at him, striding to the door and getting the .38 out of my pocket. Shadow left from the door, and I switched into survival mode. Hit the bedroom fast, gave the wife the panic word and secured a 12 Gauge. Then to the phone for the cops. They took about 5-7 minutes to get here, though it seemed like 15.

THe cop was very matter-of-fact. He did a tour around the perimeter with his maglite and said he'd take a spin around the neighborhood.

So now it's almost 10:30 and I probably have a few sleepless hours of TacomaWorld surfing ahead of me. Pulse rate is still up as of now.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a prepper, as well as an NRA pistol instructor and a concealed carry instructor. I was glad to have the panic word tonight.

I have to admit, that I feel like throwing up right now. Serious adrenaline dump.

No, that's part of the point. It should be something that only you and your family know.

That's actually a cool idea. I think we're just ignorant to that kind of stuff up here as it doesn't happen too often.
