Not true. It's personal preference--spend a day in a camp chair drinking beer on the side of the Rubicon or Fordyce and you will see plenty of manuals crawling by. Most comp buggies do have automatics to make things easier, but not all. Personally I love the engine braking of a manual on technical trails.

Man, I don't love upshifting all the time, but I'll skip a bunch of gears often, go from first to third often, 2nd to fourth, etc. Love downshifting with the auto in the GS300. I'd rather downshift than brake in the mountains, hear the engine roar and the exhaust rumble and pop, a little bit of braking to get into the corner, then bam accelerate out of the corner.

I imagine you auto guys feel the same way with Taco's. Downshifting with a manual there's a little more time needed, and a crunch in the gears if the engine RPM's aren't matched up properly to the gear speed. You have to pop the gas pedal after disengaging the clutch to get the engine RPM's up to match.

I shift gears in my Peterbuilt Ready-Mix truck all day long. On the commute home from Seattle to Tacoma the last thing i want to do is SHIFT MORE GEARS, which is why i bought auto. I have been shifting gears in mixers for 29+ years, except for 3 years in an automatic Peterbuilt in Las Vegas, which was the best damned Pete i ever drove... my last toyo 4x4 was a five speed manual, I'll take the 4.0 Auto anyday.

I like to be able to move to any gear I want to at any time, that's impossible with an auto.

you know what, thats probably what it is, it just does it a lot. not sure if its just the 33's with stock gears or if i should be worried about my transmission.

You can do a pretty easy experiment to find out , if you are in D and feel the sensation of it " gearing down " , drop it into 4 , if it shifts down , it was the TC in D

You seem to have quite the seniority complex (Emphasis on the senior). I really don't doubt that you are older than me. You have made that abontantly clear. If you think, however, that you are smarter or wiser simply because you have been alive longer then your statements don't really hold water. Yes I did race my friend. Yes both of our trucks are 2006 Prerunner O/Rs. And yes they are both silver. Thought it was funny that they were basically the same truck with different transmissions. If you really can't understand these posts you probably shouldn't reply. The fact remains that I took him off the line and all the way up to 100+ mph. Then at around 70 he hit the gas. I dropped it to 3rd and took him again. I'm not really sure what part of my statement you have an issue with. If read it I clearly the first thing I mentioned was that it comes down to what you want and what your situation is like. I'm quite sure I haven't held the end of this, so please enlighten me some more. And as far as the person who said my friend doesn't know how to drive an automatic, please, push the gas pedal. Don't fool yourself in to thinking its faster if you move the little "shifter" around.

It's cool bud. I was kinda joking about the variables involved with you comparison. Including the fact that you might be a better driver than your friend. I speak of my age because experience is golden. When I was young er, I thought I knew everything because I didn't know how much I didn't know yet.haha. We all start out the same way. You are sharp no doubt and I don't want to start a fight. I just think what I think. Enjoy your stick.
