I just installed a cheap ebay style aftermarket keyless entry module in my 2001 Tacoma Prerunner V6. I received conflicting information regarding the wiring of the unit, but ultimately decided to go with the standard type B (negative lock trigger [someone please confirm that this is correct]) wiring diagram, despite my poorly-translated universal instructions telling me to wire it as if it were a positive-triggered mechanism. Anyway, the unit came with its own fuse on the constant 12v+ lead. I made the mistake of hooking up the device to the parking flashers, which the unit obviously was not made to handle, as its 15 amp fuse blew with the first test of the system. I disconnected the flashers per the advice of another forum, and changed the fuse. Now the keyless entry works like a charm, but I just noticed that my stereo is totally dead. I'm wondering why this could be. There don't seem to be any other blown fuses, so I'm worried the head unit may be blown. Another possibility is that the wiring is incorrect on the keyless entry. There's a yellow and y/b wire that is either spliced into the constant 12v+ for a positive trigger, or grounded for a negative trigger. It's currently grounded, and I'm wondering if that could be causing a short in the system if it's incorrect. Any thoughts? I'm an 18-year old senior in high school, and definitely not an expert, so any educated opinions would be much appreciated!

Do you still have the factory radio ??

Check the Dome Fuse and 15 amp Acc.fuse.

Some aftermarket radios have a fuse of there own and must be reset after electric has been disconnected.

The radio just quit from bad timing not related to your install

A short will result in open circuit protection being opened Melted and burnt wires to the circuit opens at Worst a visit from the Fire Department.

Time for a Multi Meter if your doing electric work.
