As the title says, I want to get my truck ready for winter. For those of you in the know, what is necessary? I was thinking an oil pan heater and a battery warming pad with a plug-in up front?? Is this the norm, what brands and is there anything else to look into? coming from AZ im clueless

Where in Alaska? Some places are colder than others. A block heater is what the Anchorage dealership installs on the rigs they sell. The south central area wont need more than that, as you head up towards the interior (Fairbanks) you may need a battery warmer. I keep a good set of winter gear in my rig with a shovel and set of chains, but I haven't had to use them. By chains I mean something like a tow strap, not tire chains.

It may be obvious but make sure to wiper fluid that does not freeze. Also, if you have an older battery maybe get a new one before the cold weather sets in.

Thanks for the input. I'm in anchorage so it shouldn't get too bad. Especially if it's anything like the past couple. I'll start looking into good block heaters and wiper fluid

I got a block heater but rarely use it even when it's down to -30 truck still starts fine. you should invest in some winter tires, non winter rubber gets hard at the temps you'll experience and trust me when I say it will not be fun driving. some will say just use 4x4 but that won't help you steer or stop

I live in Anchorage (work Elmo), park outside only and never even plugged it in last two years. Run synthetic oil and dance on. ( I do remote start though)
