I was reading on DP review that a lot of people were able to buy the camera from Best Buy a few days early (official release this Sunday) so I gave it a try. Used a 12% off reward zone coupon and picked up the kit at a sweet deal. Hardest part now is waiting for the battery to charge so I can see what this beast can do.

After tax and a 4gb card it was $1400.

Here's some shots from tonight at the Texas State Fair. All I can say is that I'm really happy with this camera.

D3000 sucks in the dark unless you have good lighting setup

    Both were ISO1600.
Any suggestions on a good general purpose lens to get? I'm probably going to grab a 50mm f1.8D today to replace my old E-series 50mm but other than that I will have to use the kit lens till I save some more $.

nikkor 18-200mm the 50mm is great for FX cameras but since you have DX i would recommend the 35mm f1.8 i would say thats the best prime lens for your camera.
