Just picked up my dream truck. 05 TRD Sport, 140k Miles, V6, 4X4, Manual. Single owner truck, and from the looks of it he parked it in a garage all its life. The frame does not have a speck of rust on it, and its not covered up by a spray from what I can tell.

Already purchased Husky Liners, mainly due to the input from many TW members.

Any advice on first mods or accessories to buy? I am going to replace the interior lights with LEDs first chance I get. But after that I have no clue.

Looks nice. I won’t give any mods or accessories advice, do whatever you think looks best or things you’ll enjoy. Floor mats was a good choice. Keep it clean, looks like a well kept truck. With that mileage, I’d start by making sure everything that should have been addressed as far as maintenance is taken care of. And then go from there. Enjoy

For first mod I will recommend the first mod I did that I found on TW, disabling the seat belt chime.

Thanks! I definitely need the all weather mats where I live. As far as maintenance is concerned, from the service history it looks like the previous owner never skipped a scheduled service or fluid change. The only thing is I couldn't find mats for the rear of the truck. Do they make mats for the rear of an access cab?

I'll take a look at it! I also want to figure out how to add an AUX cable to the stock stereo.

Access cabs are the absolute best looking body style of tacomas. If I didnt have a kid I would build an access cab tomorrow. Congrats buddy. 05s are great, no frills and no traction control!

Seems fine. Nothing out of the ordinary, looks good like the rest of the frame. Is there an issue with that part of the frame on 05s?

No frills, no traction control, no timing belt, no problem!

Rust is the problem on all older tacos in rainy areas. Look for flaking frame metal next to the cats.

Dang I didn't know near the cats was a hot spot for rust. I've always just gone over the frame itself, without looking for a specific area.

Nice find and welcome to the taco family! If you want a darker headlight look I put Depo Headlights on mine. Love them so far. No fogging or moisture issues with factory seals.

2005 and early 2006 V6's had head gasket issues. I believe the problem was solved with a new gasket design.

Weathertech does. I know there are haters and I don’t know why. Have had 2 AC Tacoma’s and full weathertech on both.

    Hells yeah. Absolutely agree!

Congrats to the OP. What I would do for a Manual/V6/AC/4x4!!

Couple simple/cheap mods that IMHO are money very well spent:

Anti - Tweaker tailgate retainer mod ( keeps your tailgate from walking away for scrap)

Differential breather mod (increases safe deep water height by a foot)

A-pillar ram mount (great place to mount a phone)

Cabin air intake screen (keeps debris from your cabin filter)

That’s it for now. Total investment of those four mods- prolly less than 50$, and the first two could save you hundreds. Have fun

Well shoot. I just came from a Subaru with head gasket issues. The service history says the gaskets were replaced in the last 15k miles though. How long are they usually good for?

You’ve already got 140k on the motor AND the gasket have been replaced. I think you gotta be good.

Awesome! I’m all in for cheap mods since o just spent a fair amount of money. I’ve seen the anti-tweaked mod, is it really as simple as a hose clamp? I’ll have to take a look at weathertech for the rear.
i may have to invest in these. I have a small amount of moisture in my passenger headlight that I would like to never see again.
Thanks! So far I just need convenience mods, but once the cabin is set I’m gonna move to more utility mods. But I’m open to all suggestions!
