You could do a hose clamp, which is cheaper, but the ‘anti-tweaker’ by @christian06 is a heavy gage press brake formed steel form that bolts to the tailgate utilizing the existing t40 torx bolt. Looks very professional, can be painted, is much more secure, and isn’t a hose clamp! upload_2019-11-26_23-28-31.jpg

Some 05's had issues with head gaskets. But if you had yours done. They would have used a newer design that eliminated that problem. Other than that and frame rust.
With regular maintenance, these things can go almost forever.

Nice truck! You scored for only paying 11k and having the head gaskets done already, that's a really expensive job. Good find, enjoy it!

    Yep. And Weathertech Floorliners too.
14 years later you might want to consider dropping in a big-screen unit with bluetooth and Android Auto.

Some issues affecting earlier-year trucks (outside regular maintenance):
    Engine mounts collapsing into frame
Steering rack leak at the bellows
    Timing chain cover leak

Welcome to Tacoma World. Congrats on a very nice Taco!

Best early mod I recommend can be found here on TW - "The Clearview Rearview Mirror Riser...Get that mirror out of your way !" - You will appreciate getting an unobstructed clearer view from the right side of the windshield.

If I were you I would pick up the mirror riser. That was about my only complaint about my truck when I got it was how low the mirror sat.

Only 1 mod needed, to make yours the "Ultimate Taco", it will be expensive. Cut out that 18" space, between the back of the doors & the rear window, slide everything forward that 18" & you'll have a Reg. cab, TRD Sport, 4X4, W/ 4.0, & in the prettiest color Toyota ever used. & please, never replace, nor for sure, paint those beautiful alum. wheels black. God that would be fugly. As Toyota never offered these in a reg. cab, looks like you got the best ever offered. Beautiful Taco, Congrats. That's my opinion, & it ought to be yours.
