Just purchased a 25ft travel trailer. Should I have any issues?

That's definitely on the upper end of what many would tow with a tacoma. Yes the limit is 6500 but generally 4k is what most here have been comfortable with. At 5k you will be having to pay more attention to the tow whereas at say 3k you forget the trailer is there.

I towed a 19ft trailer and it was ok. I trailered an f250, total load 4500 and it sucked

Is the 5k before loading the trailer up with water etc?

10-12mpg at best on flat ground. Be certain to buy a good weight distribution/sway system. Make sure you have a brake controller installed. Don't expect to break any speed limits. And go read the Tacoma towing Bible thread, lots of good info there. Our trailer is 27ft 4600lbs

5k is the dry weight... this is our first camper. We are hoping this will not be an issue. We were assured by the folks at the dealership and the camper dealership that there wouldn't be an issue. We are having an anti sway, weight distribution and brakes installed when we pick up camper monday. I'm not worried about mpg per say, but instead the long term affects on the truck itself.

You may want to upgrade the transmission cooler or put some puller fans behind it, that's what I'm doing. You should get some sort of gauge system to monitor temps

Keep it in 4th as opposed to OD as much as possible. Yes, you will burn a bit more gas, but you will save your tranny from overheating and excessive shifting on even slight grades.

Well you are committed .not gonna lie, It's going to be a challenge. Go slow, practice turning etc, and most important, get a good feel for braking distance before you get into a hairy spot. So many new trailer owners get a half mile before oops.the momentum is different even with trailer brakes. It takes a longer time/distance to stop , so much different it can be hard to understand until you do it. Here you are stomping on the brakes as hard as you can and your mothership is still cruising along

Agree with a trailer this size /weight I wouldn't recommend EVER going above 4th. Even on a downhill or straightaway

Definitely keep it in 4th. Although it will still get hot in bumper to bumper traffic on a steep hill lol, yes I know from experience lol

All this doomsday talk aside enjoy, one advantage of pulling a larger trailer is you get to,hang out in it at your destination. Just a few feet in length makes the difference between stepping over the other travellers in a cramped cabin, and lounging in comfort.

Haha, now you guys have got me worried... I was assured it was plenty of truck and that I Wouldn't have issues... they were actually saying I could go up another 500 pounds of dry weight. If I have to go 60 instead of 75, so be it. But I just dont want to destroy my truck... I love my truck.

Just take it easy, watch for crosswinds, keep an eye on traffic, get some practice on short trips, and you should be fine.

When we tow to beach, we will have to climb some solid grades... so you guys saying just keep it in 4th and take it easy right?

4th will be as high as you will want to go under any circumstances, that is the consensus of the members in this thread. I never left 4th with my 19ftr too much risk of bogging the engine down hard

Well they are salesmen... that said towing is hard on a vehicle. Consider a good transmission cooler and a Scangauge or Ultragauge to better monitor temps.

You will be able to climb any grade that is a county/state Rd with your tacoma towing your trailer. Keep an eye on your rpms if they seem low and your auto trans hasn't downshifed do so manually.

This, the ultraguage can show trans temp and also more importantly the temp at the torque converter. They make one just for the tacome, you plug it into your obd. Towing a heavy load like this I would say it is a necessity. Around 80$ To see these temps however takes a few minutes of programming. Lots of online resources to walk you thru

Lots of good advice in here.

Take your rig out once everything is installed Monday and get use to it before the "big trips".

You'll see where you need to make adjustments in driving habits. Don't be afraid to test the brakes real good either!

I'm sure this goes without saying but overheated brakes are useless.
