Curious if the OP is driving a double cab or access cab. The access cab is much louder inside due to the door configuration. It took some getting used to. For the first few months I had it, I always thought a window was down somewhere.

I've actually tried restarting it one time cuz it was so quiet. The grinding noise it made was horrible. Felt like i kicked a puppy.

I used BoomMat under the interior carpet and rear wall along with other insulation.

Self adhesive 3/4 inch engine compartment insulation under the hood also helped to quiet it down.

I don’t care if it looks ugly under the hood as I’m the only one doing routine maintenance and I’m not displaying it at car shows.
It’s still in place after 1.5 years.

My wife complained of her compact SUV being noisy. I used Dynamat and insulation on the interior and attached underhood insulation several years ago.

I notice mine (manual offroad double cab short bed) seems to have a lot of road noise from the rear. All quiet up front

Wonder if the more street oriented versions are quieter

Michelin MXV4 passenger tires if you want peace and quiet. BFG T/A KO2’s if you want to rattle your testicles.

Dammit I knew I should have done that when I had the doors off for the speakers.

Yep, access cab here and it's noisy. Meh

Hey OP, when you have both door seals doing the kazoo shriek at 70 with a good crosswind.. come back and talk to me about noise lol!

Yeah, yeah, I know there's a mod or maybe even a TSB for that.

You should do that. very quiet and great sound. I do not have too many pictures for the mod. I follow this but no speaker adapters. Just cut old speaker and seat new in the plastic.

Looks like you screwed up and bought the wrong truck. Go to the dealer and demand a refund and go buy a ridgeline.

Just FYI my dealership told me the 4Runner has an OEM under hood insulation blanket that'll fit the 3rd Gen Tacos, I'm looking into it.

I still have one with roughly 200,000 miles. Outside of rear main seals that only last 60,000 miles, it has been good. I intend to keep it and the Tacoma. The RL is good for long highway trips over 6 hours and under 80 MPH. I had mine sound deadened with Dynomat. That helped. Also, I've found the RTS cloth interiors are quieter than RTL leather. I look at the RL as an SUV (actually it was the 1st gen MDX) with a bed. I look at the Tacoma as a fun truck with plenty of get up and go. They have different purposes.

    I sincerely doubt that.

Many vehicles, including Toyota 4Runners have under hood insulation as standard equipment.

On my wife’s little loaded with options model SUV it came standard on every model year except the last year, which is what she purchased. I guess Nissan either ran out, or they were trying to save some money.

With the car parked and the engine off, the insulation possibly keeps under hood temps just a little cooler as blazing heat from the sun on the metal hood is slowed from moving down into the engine compartment.
It might also keep a little heat off of the battery when the vehicle is sitting.

I figured this couldn’t hurt either. When new, I wrapped the battery with some leftover material which I used on the home HVAC.
Again, battery blankets are standard on many vehicles.

Not that it matters, but it’s flame rated. I checked it out with a BBQ lighter just for the heck of it.

Approaching 6 years with only 50,000 miles and still cranking.
I also wrapped this one when new.
