When asking people to pay gonzo prices, it’s not ideal to give current owners extra time to play around with configurators & payment calculators, then commiserate with others over paying a lot extra for otherwise basic or previously standard items. If you’re Toyota, you’d prefer to stun them with the Youtube reviews and get them to sign so quickly they don’t even realize there’s engine sound augmentation coming from their speakers.

Early buyers are now already delayed into February ‘24 and beyond. Instead of lining up to get fleeced, why not just cool your jets for a measly 9-10 more months for the incentives to roll out in Nov-Dec?

Indeed- I haven’t seen a 2024 Tacoma TRD OR VSpec for less that $50K…even though they can be configured cheaper, it seems they aren’t being allocated as such.

I paid 32k for my 2017, new in Oct 2016. A similar equipped 2024 is 48k sticker, a 50% increase in 7 years. Thats just crazy

$32k in Oct 2016 is equal to $40,600 in December ‘23. So it’s more like a ~20% increase in real terms, for a completely new and improved platform.

it’s a lot more, but when you look in real dollars it’s not as insane.

    I paid $37,400 for a loaded 2017 Inferno Off-road. A little over $41,000 for a loaded 2021 Silver Off-road. Those were 10+ percent off MSRP.

I wonder how long it will take to get a deal like that on a 4th gen Tacoma.

Sales are kicking butt probably to get the last of the V6 and don't want a 4 banger nor imax screen for 60K +.
I wouldn't guarantee it carries into the new model.

If that was the case wouldn’t ADMs be common on ‘23s?

Yea, no doubt. But as others have pointed out, Toyota sells a lot of other cars, suvs, etc.

For all the doom and gloom I watch on YouTube about Tundra's not selling, it has highest sales since 2008. 125K.

I think Tacoma's will be similar. Maybe not as many as peak sales, but still substantially more than any other mid size. $6000 more is another $113/mo(5%) note. Like it or not, people will buy it.

I agree. Toyota sells 2 to 3 times as many Tacomas as any other model in its segment. I don’t see this radically changing. Tacoma sales are 1/3 of the whole midsize truck segment.

I'm sure GM and Ford were happy to see Toyota jack up their prices. We'll see if they manage to take some market share.

When compared apples to apples it doesn’t seem like the Tacoma is that much more in the core trims. A TRD Off Road Premium 4wd auto (dcsb) looks to be about $53,000. A Ranger Lariat 4wd auto (dcsb) with the FX4 package (probably comparable to a TRD OR) looks to be about $50,000. There is more of a jump between a Colorado Z71 and the Ranger/ Tacoma with the Colorado being around $47,000, but it does seem like the Colorado is lacking a lot of features in its base for which can be added on for a cost.

I’ll mess around with a few other trims to see if this is consistent between comparable trims

In base spec they are fairly close with the Colorado still being the outlier

It seems the Tacoma comes with its Tech package standard (adaptive cruise, blindspot, etc) on higher trims while the others don’t. On the GM it adds $3,020 because you can’t just have to have the tech package (adaptive cruise), you also get the safety package (rear sensors) and convenience package (power seats, dual zone climate control, remote start, and auto dim mirror). If I’m not mistaken these are all standard on TRD models (maybe SR5).

On the Ranger the tech package is $1,560 and includes the same sort of this (sensors mainly)

When these are added to similar configurations I think the prices get fairly similar between the 3 trucks
