So, I've always planned on doing a tune like OTT after getting my Tacoma. Obviously, I would assume you'd want to wait till after your break-in period before tuning. Does it make any sense to tune later than earlier?

I would personally wait until the factory warranty has expired, but that's just me being the overly cautious person I am.

Honestly it doesn't matter. The tune resets all ECU learning, so the factory learning process doesn't matter.

Also, so far, there's no story of a dealer ever detecting a tune or any warranty being denied.

Me personally, I'd put 500 miles on the odometer just to get it past the "trailer towing" mark. That way, when you put your foot into it, there's no chance of whipping an engine that isn't broken in.

This ^^^ or may just drive it as it is then decide on a tune after the first oil change so you can feel the difference in performance / drivability .

I'd probably wait until the first oil change as well just so you can tell the difference. No need to wait until you warranty is over though, that's just silly..

I don't even have one but I plan on tuning after it's broken in only because I want to strap it on a dyno to get before and after numbers.

I waited 1500 miles and did my first oil change at 1000 miles. I figured that would give me time to get a feel what stock is like and after the first oil change I could drive it like I would normally. You will definitely feel a good different from stock to a tune.

I would wait until the break-in period is done. Then go wild

Immediately…. Every mile on the stock tune is a wasted mile.

Does the break in period really exist anymore? And, if it did, wouldn’t it be arguably more efficient for the break in? Because of the thought that you need to see a lot of rpm variance as you break in. I wouldn’t think it mattered that much. When mine was tuned, I thought, why did I wait so long? Tunes supposedly take “2 tanks of gas” to learn anyways.
